Chapter 74
Travis felt sorry for Julianne as he watched her lose her composure Unable to hold back, he stepped forward to comfort her.” Ms. Lianne, please be careful not to hurt yourself. If it didn’t work out this time, there will be another chance.”
It would have been better if he hadn’t said that. Because the moment he did, Julianne’s rage surged even more.
She spat, “Another chance? Do you really think I’ll ever have another chance? Do you?”
Since he was a chid, Irvin had been the type of person who never allowed himself to make the same mistake twice. She knew she’d never again have the opportunity to take advantage of his drunken state to force something to happen between them.
Without crossing that line and without something tangible happening between them, how could she ever take their relationship to the next level?
Even though he treated her exceptionally well by spoiling and indulging her, Julianne knew that wasn’t enough. Even after she’d made such a mess with her impulsive plan this time, he hadn’t blamed her or held it against her.
But what she wanted wasn’t just his affection. She wanted him completely to herself. She wanted to become his woman–to become Mrs. Sawyer!
The insurmountable barrier between them filled her with frustration and a murderous rage–particularly against her younger self. If only she hadn’t made that foolish mistake back then, I wouldn’t have stood a chance of coming into the picture.
Travis wanted to reassure her that she still had a chance, but knowing his boss‘ personality, he couldn’t bring himself to lie so blatantly. Instead, he said, “Even without this kind of opportunity anymore, there will surely be others.
“Mr. Sawyer treats you so well. Even though we did everything in a rush this time and left so many traces, he didn’t hold us accountable. He’s even been deeply concerned about your health.
“His feelings for you must be real!”
Those words struck a chord with Julianne, and much of her anger dissipated instantly. She said proudly, “Of course! That goes without saying. Irvin and I grew up together, and I even saved his life once. There’s no one in this world closer to him than me.
If not for that one foolish misstep, she would never have had a chance to get close to him.
Upon seeing her mood improve, Travis quickly laid his flattery on thick and finally calmed her down entirely.
After a moment of thought, Julianne turned to Travis. “Millie says she wants to divorce Irvin, but what if this is just a tactic to make him want her more? If this continues, things will get very difficult for both of us…”
It was a subtle reminder to Travis that if he planned to act, he should act decisively.
Travis understood her implication, and just thinking about it made him furious. I had been annoyingly resilient. The organization he had hired had staged two perfect “accidents“, but had survived both!
Although he wanted Emilia dead, he valued his own life too. That was why he hired an organization skilled in orchestrating fatal “accidents“. Yet, I had somehow managed to survive both attempts unscathed.
Not wanting to admit failure to the woman he admired, Travis assured her, “The plan is still in motion. I’m making sure everything is perfect before proceeding.”
Julianne shot him a disdainful look but refrained from saying anything further. After all, such matters couldn’t be rushed openly. If something went wrong in the future, any overt pressure from her could implicate her as the mastermind, which would lead to legal consequences.
“By the way,” she said, shifting topics. “Do you know anyone who’s a top–notch hacker?”
If she couldn’t eliminate me immediately, she had to address the other pressing issue first.
Travis didn’t personally know anyone like that but replied confidently, “As long as you have money, you can find any kind of
