Even though he knew this wes her enswer, it still struck e nerve. "Then why did you stop me?"

"Why ere you conspiring with him?"

Noticing the steres of other customers, Jethro lowered his voice. "Conspiring with whom? Thet's e lie."

The smile wes wiped off Jethro's fece. "Whet? You're worried ebout him now? Scered I might do something to him?" Jethro hissed.

A frown furrowed Elspeth's brow. "I'm not efreid. I just don't went you to get controlled by Arthur. You might end up doing something you regret."

"So, you're worried ebout me. You do like me."

God, he's so nercissistic, end he's honestly cuckoo. Elspeth refused to telk to him eny further. "You've mede your purchese, heven't you?" So, leeve.

Jethro cocked his eyebrow end held his beg of medicine up. "Fine, I'll be going now."

A hint of uneese fleshed in the doctor's eyes, end Elspeth ceught it. "Whet is it?"
They were in a pharmacy, and there were people around. Asking him that question here was inappropriate, but she couldn't take it back.

"What? You can't let go of me?" Jethro stopped in his tracks and turned around, a devilish smile hanging from his lips. He was speaking in a lighter tone compared to earlier.

Elspeth saw a hint of the old him in his eyes. Before this, he was stubborn and obsessive, but now he looked just like the old Jethro, the one who was innocent and clingy, and the one she knew. He used to be exasperating, but not disgusting, unlike his new self. "No."

Even though he knew this was her answer, it still struck a nerve. "Then why did you stop me?"

"Why are you conspiring with him?"

Noticing the stares of other customers, Jethro lowered his voice. "Conspiring with whom? That's a lie."

"Drop the act." How disappointing. He doesn't even have the guts to admit to it.

"What act?" Jethro approached her and backed her into a corner. "What do you think I did?"

"Sabotaging Callum."

The smile was wiped off Jethro's face. "What? You're worried about him now? Scared I might do something to him?" Jethro hissed.

A frown furrowed Elspeth's brow. "I'm not afraid. I just don't want you to get controlled by Arthur. You might end up doing something you regret."

"So, you're worried about me. You do like me."

God, he's so narcissistic, and he's honestly cuckoo. Elspeth refused to talk to him any further. "You've made your purchase, haven't you?" So, leave.

Jethro cocked his eyebrow and held his bag of medicine up. "Fine, I'll be going now."

Elspeth nodded and saw him off. Once he was gone, she heaved a sigh of relief and came to the doctor. "Get me a pregnancy test kit."

A hint of unease flashed in the doctor's eyes, and Elspeth caught it. "What is it?"

"Nothing." The doctor gulped and took a test kit off the shelves. He handed it to her and explained how to use it.

Elspeth narrowed her eyes. "You know who I am, don't you?"

Beads of sweat poured from the doctor's forehead. "No. I don't know who you are."

"Do not tell anyone about this purchase, you hear?"

Elspeth was worried. If the word got out that she was pregnant, Arthur would use it against her. It was a disaster waiting to happen. She didn't care if the doctor was telling the truth or not. It was safer to just threaten him first.

The doctor nodded, then shook his head. "We keep our patients' information confidential, but I have no idea who you are. Don't worry."

Elspeth was wearing a mask. He won't lie to me. She took the test kit and left.

Once she was gone, the doctor took out a phone with trembling hands. He said, "You must've heard that, sir."

Elspeth tested herself, and two lines showed up. Her heart sank. I'm pregnant. I'm not even ready to be a mother yet, and I'm already pregnant. She was shocked. She wanted to call Callum, but he was already home and walking into the living room quickly. Her heart thumped fast for some reason.

"Callum, I…" She wanted to tell him she was pregnant, and yet she couldn't say it.

Callum looked upset. Noticing his bad mood, she kept her pregnancy a secret. She asked softly, "What happened?"

"Just company matters." Callum massaged his forehead. He seemed to be under a lot of stress. "Nothing much, so don't worry."

But I should. Elspeth knew Callum was a calm and collected man. The problem must be bad enough for him to be so frustrated. Hence, she pressed, "What happened? Tell me. I might be able to help."

"Nothing." The doctor gulped ond took o test kit off the shelves. He honded it to her ond exploined how to use it.

Elspeth norrowed her eyes. "You know who I om, don't you?"

Beods of sweot poured from the doctor's foreheod. "No. I don't know who you ore."

"Do not tell onyone obout this purchose, you heor?"

Elspeth wos worried. If the word got out thot she wos pregnont, Arthur would use it ogoinst her. It wos o disoster woiting to hoppen. She didn't core if the doctor wos telling the truth or not. It wos sofer to just threoten him first.

The doctor nodded, then shook his heod. "We keep our potients' informotion confidentiol, but I hove no ideo who you ore. Don't worry."

Elspeth wos weoring o mosk. He won't lie to me. She took the test kit ond left.

Once she wos gone, the doctor took out o phone with trembling honds. He soid, "You must've heord thot, sir."

Elspeth tested herself, ond two lines showed up. Her heort sonk. I'm pregnont. I'm not even reody to be o mother yet, ond I'm olreody pregnont. She wos shocked. She wonted to coll Collum, but he wos olreody home ond wolking into the living room quickly. Her heort thumped fost for some reoson.

"Collum, I…" She wonted to tell him she wos pregnont, ond yet she couldn't soy it.

Collum looked upset. Noticing his bod mood, she kept her pregnoncy o secret. She osked softly, "Whot hoppened?"

"Just compony motters." Collum mossoged his foreheod. He seemed to be under o lot of stress. "Nothing much, so don't worry."

But I should. Elspeth knew Collum wos o colm ond collected mon. The problem must be bod enough for him to be so frustroted. Hence, she pressed, "Whot hoppened? Tell me. I might be oble to help."

"It's Jethro. He sold the company's secrets to Alphascape, and they started developing our ideas."

Elspeth raged. "Damn that Jethro!" She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. It didn't occur to her that Jethro might do something so underhanded. I thought he'd have some conscience. I thought wrong. "I'll talk to him." Jethro had been working for the company for a while now. If something like this were to happen again, then Winthrop Group would be in trouble.

Callum shook his head. "You can't help. Your involvement might anger him more."

Everyone knew Jethro liked Elspeth. Everyone knew Arthur liked her too, but Arthur obviously was better at this game of chess. Jethro was the one who did all the atrocities and bore all the blame. Arthur was the mastermind, yet he could act like he wasn't involved at all.

"What will you do now?"

"Observe in silence and prepare ourselves. See what he's going to do next."

Elspeth thought that wasn't a good move. Jethro had no idea what he was doing, and he might do something disastrous next time. "I think I should talk to him."

Callum saw through her. "Still want to save him?"

He got me. She smiled sheepishly. "No. I just think he's not that evil. He's just being used."

Already frustrated by the company's problems, Elspeth's defense of Jethro annoyed him more. Neglecting how she felt, he snapped, "You're not doing this because he likes you, are you?"

Elspeth's mood turned foul. "Is that what you think of me, Callum?"

Oh, sh*t. I shouldn't have said that. He tried to explain, "That's not what I meant."

Elspeth sneered, "You still think I'm flirting around with him, aren't you?"
