Chapter 120
As I woke up that morning, Brandon was still lingering in my mind from the dream. It was the second time he had appeared in my dreams, making me wonder if our paths had crossed before.
Setting the dream aside, remember when I dreamed about the boy who carried
me and had a mole on his back? Well, Brandon had the exact same one.
And yesterday, he called me “Mae“. I heard it loud and clear. There was no mistaking it.
As my thoughts wandered, Kara snapped me back to reality. “Maddie, why did you return to the room to sleep?”
It was abnormal for the perpetually sleepy Kara to wake up before her alarm. I knew exactly what she meant and rolled my eyes at her. “What do you mean come back to the room‘?”
Kara chuckled mischievously. “I thought maybe something happened between you and Mr. Howell-”
“What are you even thinking?” I cut her off. “Why is your mind always in the gutter?”
“You’re both single–what’s wrong with a one–night stand?” Kara’s words hit the mark.
“But you can’t just fall in love that easily, either. Where would that lead?” I countered.
Kara leaned closer while propping herself on a pillow. “Maddie, you know what? I really want to see Mr. Howell, the straight–laced guy, fall head over heels for someone.”
“Huh? I didn’t quite catch her drift.
“I mean, I want to see a seriou

guy like him act affectionately with a woman.”
“If you really want to see that, you’ll have to try it yourself because you still won’t get to see it even if someone else tries,” I said, sitting up.
Kara matched my movement and sat up as well. “Then, Maddie, if you do, you can tell me all about it.”
I rolled my eyes at her. “Do you want me to film it for you?”
“Sure, sure!” Kara replied unabashedly.
I grabbed a pillow and hurled it at her, but she caught it swiftly and held it. against her chin. “Maddie, did something happen between you and Mr. Howell last night?”
At her question, I instantly recalled Brandon leaning
Over me as he searched for the document, the moment I covered him with a blanket, and the image of him pulling me close.
“Maddie, did something really happen between you two?” Kara prodded.
My absentminded expression didn’t escape Kara, who immediately jumped from her bed to mine for gossip.
“No! Don’t jump to conclusions,” I denied and was about to get out of bed.
Kara held me back. “Maddie, just tell me.
“Nothing happened. And quit shipping me and Brandon. He’s not my type.” I said the last sentence to shut her up.
I left for the bathroom, with Kara sighing behind me. “Well, yeah. After all those years with Mr. Gildon, it’s not easy to move on, right?”
I let out a mocking chuckle without responding to her question.
After getting ready, Kara and I were about to get breakfast, only to bump into Brandon right outside.
He wore camo pants and a black t–shirt, looking ruggedly handsome.
Suddenly, I felt a bit flushed.
