Waiting for me? And? Did she think I would see her because of that? Who did she think she was? 

I ignored her without hesitation, but Chris, who was staring at me, did not notice the message on the 

screen. 

“Madeline, do you seriously not want me anymore?” Chris asked with reddened eyes. 

I hated repeating myself, so I questioned him, “What can I do to make you believe that I’m serious? Marry Brandon?” 

To make him get over me, I had even kissed Brandon. Yet, it was futile because he thought I was just getting back at him. 

“Madeline!” he said my name through gritted teeth. It was his way of displaying anger. I used to fear that, but I felt nothing now. 

Was this how it felt like to stop caring about someone? 

I lowered my gaze before looking him in the eyes, “Chris, we’re truly over. So over that even if you’re the last man left standing on earth, I still won’t choose you! 

I was truly fed up with his relentless entanglement, despite knowing how cruel and humiliating those, words sounded. 

His expression contorted, and he couldn’t get a word out. Instead, he simply stared at me for a long, long

Although I did not meet his eyes, I could feel the shift of emotions in his gaze–anger, resentment, frustration, and despair. “Don’t regret this, Madeline,” he murmured. 

My fingers tightened around the steering wheel. “Yeah, I won’t.” 

“What if something bad happens to me? Or an accident? Will you regret it?” he asked suddenly. 

Confused, I looked at him only to see his reddened eyes. “Madeline, I know I’ve made a mistake and that 

I’ve mistreated you. I know that now. I’ve tried millions of ways to beg for your forgiveness 

He shook his head lightly. His eyes were red and wet. “Must I beg you on my knees?” 

I knew at that very moment that he was remorseful. I could feel it. 

but you never… 

In fact, I’d known that for a long time. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have done so many things that were out of 

character. 

“I don’t need you to do anything, Chris, because no matter what you do, it’s over, Lexpressed my thoughts calmly.
