Chapter 182 

Was she planning to marry Chris? That would be the only explanation to that question. 

But Chris tried to win me back just two hours ago! Suddenly, I recalled his question, “What if something bad or an accident happens to me? Will you regret it?” 

Was this how he planned to make me regret my decision? If that was the case, he had become hopeless and utterly foolish. 

I acted dumb and looked at Jewel. “Huh?” 

“I want to be with Chris and marry him.” She looked at me while uttering those words. 

I smiled faintly. “Really? Congratulations, then.” 

“But I’m worried his parents won’t accept my baby.” Jewel looked conflicted. 

My fingers tapped lightly on the table, and I did not respond to her. After all, it had nothing to do with me. There was nothing I could say. 

“Madeline,” she suddenly called me in a serious tone. “I know your place within the Gildon family, and I understand Mr. and Mrs. Gildon treat you like their daughter. Which is why…” She paused briefly. “I need your help.” 

knew what she needed my help with, despite her not spelling it out. Without her further explanation unhesitantly rejected her request. “No.” 

Jewel’s expression contorted. “Why not? Is it because you’re mad I came between you and Chris?” 

It seemed like she wasn’t that shameless. I didn’t deny it. “Kinda.” 

Undeniably, Jewel was the catalyst for my shattered relationship with Chris, even if she wasn’t the root of the problem. It was only human of me to feel resentment toward her. Still, I had to thank her for showing me Chris‘ true colors before I fell deeper into the hole. 

“Do you genuinely believe it’s my fault?” Jewel questioned with a mocking tone. “Even without me, you and Chris were bound to break up, Madeline.” She spoke as if she knew the ins and outs of my relationship. 

I let out a chuckle and acted clueless. “Really?” 

Jewel stared at me and continued her theory. “Despite being together for ten years, you and Chris share a familial bond, not love. The reason why you guys dated is only because his parents wanted it. You two were only fulfilling their wishes.” 

She wasn’t entirely wrong. I’d pondered abou 

this too. 

I reflected on why Chris would cheat on me with the then–married Jewel, or why I never felt an ounce of pain when I left him. I concluded that we had never loved each other enough. We knew each other so well that there was no spark in our love, let alone passion. 

“If he had truly fallen in love with you and not loved you because of familiarity, he wouldn’t have cheated on you 

with me. I was the spark he was after.” Jewel’s words were harsh.
