Chapter 253
After sending that message, I added another, “Sent by a young and attractive man.”
I watched the message go through and waited for Brandon’s reply. The seconds turned into minutes, but there was still no response.
“Hmm?”
“What’s going on?”
“Is he angry?”
“Ignoring me?”
My fingers hovered over the keyboard, ready to send him a follow–up message. But after typing a line, I reconsidered and deleted it.
If he got upset over someone sending me flowers, then he wasn’t any different from Chris. Back in school, I was often pursued. Even at work, some people tried pursuing me despite not understanding my relationship with Chris.
Every time, Chris would get angry. He wasn’t only scolding the person but also blaming me for attracting attention.
To avoid upsetting him, I often sacrificed my feelings. I even deliberately distanced myself from any male friends who might cause misunderstandings. I didn’t want to feel that way again.
So, I tossed my phone aside and focused on work. About ten minutes later, my phone rang. It was a call from Brandon. I frowned and answered.
“What’s up?”
“Why didn’t you respond to my messages?” Brandon’s voice was a bit muffled, clearly tinged with frustration.
I was taken aback and opened my WhatsApp. I saw several messages from him.
“I’m not feeling well, but I know it’s not your fault.
“It’s fine if others send flowers, but you’re not allowed to like them.
“And don’t say things like that. It makes me uneasy.
His messages were filled with a sense of grievance. It left me at a loss for words.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Brandon asked again
My mouth moved slightly as I said, “I don’t know what to say.”
“I’m not angry, just… a little jealous,” Brandon admitted honestly.
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Jealous? What do you look like when you’re jealous, Mr. Howell? Send me a photo.”
“What did you have for lunch? Brandon changed the subject.
I wondered if he was trying to have lunch with me or if he wanted to send me a loving lunch. I had to decline, so I told him about my lunch plans with Bree.
“I wanted to have lunch with you,” Brandon revealed his thoughts.
I smiled. “Brandon, you’re so clingy. Aren’t you busy?”
After asking him that, I remembered he was planning to leave that day, so he probably didn’t have much work to do.
“Brandon, you mentioned leaving. Are you going back to work?” I asked the question I had asked earlier.
“No. I’m taking care of other matters. I’ll be back later settling in Hilcord with you.” Brandon’s response surprised me.
But I knew his company headquarters wasn’t here, and there were no subsidiaries either.
“What about your job?” I couldn’t help but ask.
Brandon didn’t answer, which reminded me of what Xander had said. “Brandon, would you like to work at Hueton Corporation? We’re hiring, and we need someone with your talents.”
“You want me to work with you?” Brandon asked in return.
