I chuckled to myself. So, it was her.
When Sally Clark showed up, I was sunbathing in the garden. She strutted over in her elegant outfit with a face full of arrogance. "Madeline, you really are something, making me come all the way here to find you."
"You're mistaken. You're the one who wanted to come looking for me," I replied without indulging her.
Sally's perfectly made-up face twisted in anger. "You must know why I'm here, don't you?"
She stood there, casting a shadow that blocked the sunlight from reaching me. I had to admit, her curvy figure was particularly striking from this angle.
It wasn't just Arthur who would be drawn to her. Even I, as a woman, could appreciate both her aesthetic appeal and the practical allure.
I smiled. "I have no idea. Could it be that your daughter wants me to play with her?"
If it weren't for Tiffany, Sally and I would have never crossed paths, let alone be having this conversation right now.
As a matter of fact, I remember bumping into her and Arthur here on this very spot.
"Madeline, stop pretending," Sally snapped.
I pursed my lips. "Pretending? What exactly am I pretending? Everything about me is all-natural."
Sally's body was just too perfect. It had to be fake.
Sure enough, as soon as I said that, her face turned red. She pointed at me. "I know you're jealous of me, but let me tell you, everything about me is real. If you don't believe me, you can have it checked."
Her last comment made me burst into laughter. I realized that while this woman had a first-class figure and face, her brain was a little out of sync.
Then again, I could understand it. If she were thinking straight, she wouldn't have ended up as Arthur's mistress.
Sally's face turned pale upon hearing that.
In fact, she wasn't very old. She was probably younger than me. Still, she chose to be with a man like Arthur.
Considering Arthur's background, I could guess that this woman had her reasons for being with him.
As I prepared to leave, I decided not to be too harsh. Instead, I spoke directly to her genuine concern. "I know you're worried that if Arthur takes a liking to me, it might jeopardize your position. Or, more bluntly, you're afraid it might affect the inheritance that you and Tiffany stand to gain, right?"
Sally's beautiful eyes widened in shock. I knew I had hit the nail on the head.
It was clear that her relationship with Arthur wasn't about love but instead financial dependency. As for why that was, I had no interest in finding out. I simply smiled and said, "Goodbye."
"Madeline." I had only taken two steps before she called out to me.
