Although Ellie's surgery was a success, she couldn't be left alone as there was still a possibility of complications during her recovery.
Brandon hired a caregiver but only for the daytime. He would personally accompany Ellie every night.
As a result, I had less time to spend with Brandon since we both had to work during the day.
"I do." Brandon's response was unexpected.
"But what about Ellie…" I wanted to ask, but Brandon interrupted me.
"I'll take care of it," he said, exuding confidence and reliability once again.
"It's been some time since I spent quality time with you," he muttered, pressing his forehead against mine.
His words made my heart ache at how true they were. He had been so busy taking care of Ellie and left no time for me.
Although I wasn't feeling jealous, I still felt hurt.
Derick's match was in Liston some distance away, so Brandon and I flew there.
When we got off the plane, we saw someone hold a sign to pick us up. Brandon and I were puzzled until the person told us Derick had arranged for it.
I was genuinely surprised by how thoughtful Derick was. It was lucky that we came, or we would have let him down.
There were many of his fans on the same flight as us, and it was the first time I realized just how many followers Derick had.
I marveled and was impacted by the enthusiasm of fans who cheered him on even before entering the venue of the match.
Brandon remained silent. He had always been cold, so I didn't mind. He wasn't close with Derick either.
I began admiring the scenery, pointing out banners and posters advertising the match around the city, and telling him about Derick's skills and how I had once beaten him.
I asked the chauffeur when the car stopped, "Is Derick staying at this hotel too?"
It was rare to see this side of him. He never got jealous of Chris, but now he was jealous of Derick.
So I nodded and teased him. "Yeah, I do. If I don't, I wouldn't have talked about him so much."
The look on Brandon's face darkened. I thought he would rebuke my words, but he didn't and just said, "Let's go."
He started walking with the suitcase, but I didn't move.
He stopped and looked back at me. "Why aren't you coming?"
"Because I'm upset. You're being too petty." I sometimes acted a little childish whenever I was with Brandon. I had never done that when I had been with Chris. I had always been the perfect ideal girlfriend.
But now it was different. I acted a little like an immature girl.
Brandon sighed. He came back and stood in front of me. "I felt uncomfortable that you kept praising another man."
