Chapter 134 

Seeing the blonde girl turn and run, Ellie shoved Alex aside and chased after her. Behind her, Alex was stopped by two young men. 

Within just a couple of minutes, Ellie stopped at the side of the road, breathing heavily. 

She looked around, but the blonde girl was nowhere to be found. 

‘I definitely saw her running this way. How did she disappear so suddenly? Ellie thought. 

Standing still, Ellie scanned the area again, finally fixing her gaze on the temporary parking spaces on the side of the road. 

She checked one car after another through their windshields, but there was still no sign of the blonde girl. 

Turning her head, she saw Alex had knocked the two young men to the ground, leaving them unable to get up. Ellie quickly ran back to him. 

These two must know the blonde girl since they were with her. 

In the backseat of a black sedan, Haley watched Ellie running further away through the tinted window. Slowly, she sat up straighter. 

“Why is she chasing you?” Haley’s gaze fixed on the blonde girl sitting beside her. 

“Crazy. How would I know?” The blonde girl adjusted her clothes and hair, preparing to get out of the car. “Thanks, though.” 

Just as the girl reached for the car door handle, Haley’s eyes caught a glimpse of the necklace around the girl’s neck. 

Inside the cramped backseat of the car, the two women locked eyes. 

Haley quickly reacted, reaching out and yanking the necklace off the girl’s neck. Her pupils contracted rapidly. “Why do you have this necklace?” 

The blonde girl panicked, and terrified by Haley’s cold, menacing stare, she jumped out of the car and ran. 

Haley tightly gripped the necklace in her hand, her heart nearly stopping. This was the necklace she had lost. 

She glanced nervously across the street, where Alex and Ellie were interrogating the two young men. Panic rose in her chest. 

‘No wonder Ellie’s been hanging around here lately. She must have already realized the necklace was on this girl, so she’s been staking out the area, Haley thought. ‘Ellie must have recognized the necklace, which is why she had been chasing the girl: 

If those two guys fell into Alex’s hands, with his ruthless methods, there was no way they wouldn’t crack. 

She couldn’t let them get caught by Alex. 

A sense of urgency gripped Haley. She put on a mask and a fisherman hat, quickly climbed into the driver’s seat, and started the car. 

“What’s your relationship with that girl? Where does she live? What’s her name?” Ellie kept pressing the two young men for answers, but they refused to speak. 

“Sometimes, you have to use force with people like this. Once you knock some sense into them, they’ll tell you everything,” Alex said, kicking one man in the gut and grabbing the collar of the other. 

He landed a few punches, blood covering the man’s face. “Where does the girl live?” 

Just then, a blinding set of high beams flashed, followed by the roar of a black sedan speeding toward them. 

Alex quickly reacted, pulling Ellie into his arms and spinning around to duck onto the sidewalk. 

With a screech of tires and the car door slamming open, the two young men scrambled into the vehicle. 

Watching the black sedan with out–of–state plates drive off into the distance, Ellie was frustrated. 

“Why did you chase that woman?” Alex’s voice care from behind her as she turned around. 

In the dark of the night, on the sidewalk, the two locked eyes,

“She stole my wallet,” Ellie replied casually, brushing it off. 

If the worst–case scenario came to pass, she wasn’t sure how she’d handle it. Just the thought of it was unbearable. She’d worked so hard to forget, so hard to keep going. She couldn’t believe fate would be so cruel. 

“Let’s go back,” Alex said, not pressing further. Ellie said nothing more. 

The two of them drove back in silence, each lost in their own thoughts. 

When the car pulled into Warren Manor and came to a stop, Ellie opened the door and got out. 

Alex sat in the backseat, watching her figure disappear into the distance, his gaze narrowing. “Find that woman before tomorrow night.” 

Barry glanced at the picture of the blonde girl that Alex had sent on his phone and opened the door for him. “I’ll take care of it right now.” 

The following morning, just before 11 AM, on the fifth–floor balcony of an ordinary apartment building near Encounter Bar, Haley looked coldly at the trembling mother and daughter in front of her. “You see. If I had come any later, you’d have been in their hands.”
