Chapter 29 

“Aaron, I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth. Everyone around me is there to shield me from the storm. I don’t need someone to walk in the rain with me, do you understand!” Haley said firmly before turning away, her resolve evident. 

Aaron sat quietly, his back rigid in disbelief. He had thought long and hand before deciding to be with Haley. From the moment he chose to step into a relationship with her, he poured all his strength into making it last. 

They had shared countless happy moments and fantasized about growing old together, but these sweet memories eventually crumbled under the weight of reality. Their two–year relationship ended in just one afternION. 

As he watched Haley’s determined figure walk away, Aaron’s eyes burned with unshed tears, but he couldn’t bring himself to follow her. Not far away, Alex rushed after Haley, throwing a warning glance at Ellie, who had a firm grip on his arm. “Let go” 

Ellie stood her ground. “You promised you’d let me come with you to get that tattoo, and in return, you’d delete the video. 

The breakup with Haley was now a realny, and while it hurt short–term, Ellie knew it was her chance to get Alex to delete that video 

Alex leaned in across the table, locking eyes with Ellie. “Ellie, what are you worried about! The one I want is Haley. Even if you offered yourself to me. I wouldn’t want you? 

He yanked his armi free from her grasp and ran after Haley. 

Ellie opened her mouth, but no sound came out. She fought back tears unable to fathen why the person who had hurt her so deeply still held her heart 

Heartache twisted within her, but she forced herself to act as if nothing had happened, quickly gathering her shattered emotions to face Aaron 

Taking a seat in the spot where Haley had just been. Ellie looked closely at Aaron’s red–rimmed eyes. He was struggling to control himself the tension in his clenched fixis showed the pressure he felt 

“You still really like her, don’t you?” Ellie asked, her voice shaky. Whether she was hurting for herself or for Aaron, tears began to stream down her checks 

Aaron slowly looked away, his voice low, “No matter how much I liked her, it’s over. 

Ellie could hear his pain, and it broke her heart. Since the moment Alex arrived, she’d sensed this outcome could happen. 

Regardless of how distant things had become between Aaron and Haley, they once shared something truly special 

Aaron pulled out a tissue, handing it to Ellie to wipe her tears. “Don’t cry, I should thank her for leaving it helped me see my own worth.” 

I have my principles, and she has her ambitions. We both made choices; neither of us is wrong, I respect her decision, Aaron continued. 

Ellie gazed at Aaron, tears streaming down her face. He had tried so hard, even saving up money just to buy gifts for Haley, but Haley treasured a simple hair clip from Alex over all of it. 

Despite all the sacrifices Aaron had made for her–compromising, putting up with everything–she couldn’t see it Meanwhile, Haley was entangled with Alex even before officially breaking things off with Aaron. And when faced with Ellie’s questions, Haley always had an excuse ready. 

Haley had been the one who initiated the relationship but was the one to end it too, Aaron hadn’t done anything wrong Why? What right did she have! 

Ellie suppressed her emotions and stayed with Aaron at the restaurant for a while before they parted ways. 

Aaron had just become an assistant prosecutor and was busy with work. Ellie was working part–time at a bar during the nights, she was busy loo They felt like they were forged in iron- —no matter how painful the breakup was, they still had to put on a brave face, smiling at everyone around them, without even a moment to catch their breath. 

Because they were poor, they couldn’t afford to be emotional or cry out in pain. 

It was late at night at the Encounter Har in the Old Alley, Layton and Alex were lounging in a semi–enclosed private booth on the second floor, churting and sipping drinks while keeping an eye on the stage below.

glasses linked together, the sound ringing crystal clear, Layton shot a teasing smirk at Alex. “I heard you dropped Haley off at home, and her parents invited you for dinner. You really know how to charm then 

Alex smirked back, his pride evident,

Layton continued. “Less than three montis in, and Haley breaks up with Aaron to be with you! I honestly thought they had something real going 

“Good back in front of monry and benefits,” Alex replied lazily, savoring his drink while his eyes remained glued to the beautiful Ellie on stage. 

Following Alex’s gaze. Layton noticed Ellie, who was belting out a song, thnable to help himself, he exclaimed, “Look at those guys, their jaws are practically on the floor! I never realized this girl could sing so well. With that face and figure, it’s such a waste she hasn’t debuted yet!“ 

Alex let out a noncommittal grunt, as he owned a generous glass of red wine. 

Layton eyed the ice cubes clinking at the honom of Alex’s glass and teased, “Why do you keep adding ice to everything? Are you feeling that 

Alex gave a vague hum, barely paying attention. 

“Hey, want to make a bet? I bet you ten bucks that Ellie’s dealing with a breakup right now, just watch, Layton nudged Alex with his elbow. 

Alex’s gaze shifted to the LED screen on the second floor, catching a glimpse of Ellie’s eyes, brimming with unshed tears,
