As soon as Alex released Ellie, she quickly adjusted her clothes and headed out of the hospital room 

Thief” Hairy dused alter her. 

Around the corner of the hallway, Ellie was forced to stop. 

“Ellie, shouldn’t you explain what just happened between you and my boyfriend in that room?” Haley’s chest was rising and falling in anger, jralinisy flashing in her eyes. 

She had just passed the hospital entrance when she saw Alex’s car pull in. She only wanted to see what Alex was doing at the hospital, but instead, she stundided upon that scene, 

If Ellie and Alex were siblings, she wouldn’t think much of it, but they weren’t 

Ellie took a deep breath to steady herself, meeting Haley’s furions gaze. She replied calmly, “It you want an explanation, you should ask him!“ 

With that, Ellie turned and walked away, leaving no room for Haley to retaliate. She knew Haley had misunderstood, but she didn’t want to explain. Even if she did, Haley wouldn’t believe her. 

To Haley, Ellie’s silence felt guilty, 

Stepping in front of Ellie, Haley’s tone turned sharp. “kie, now that I’ve broken up with Aaron and I’m with Alex, are you trying to get back at me this way!”

Elle looked at Haley in disbelief. “Haley, don’t think everyone is as petty as you!” 

Haley shot back, “If that’s the case, what were you and Alex doing just now!! Don’t tell me it was all Alex’s ideal 

“Think whatever you want!” Ellie dismissed her

She liked Alex. She had quietly had a crush on him for years, but she never intended to interfere in anyone’s life.

Haley marched over and opened the jewelry box on Alex’s bedside, pulling out an expensive bracelet. It was a double–strand platinum tassel bracelet with diamonds, the latest piece from a top luxury branil, worth an eye–popping 600 thousand dollard 

Haley knew that Alex was always generous, but she was taken aback by how freely he spent on Elliet 

Clutching the bracelet tightly, she glared at Alex. “Alex, you have a girlfriend! I expect you to keep a minimum distance from Ellier 

Alex glanced at her, clearly unfazed. “So what if i have a girlfriend! When I was pursuing you, I had an engagement overseas. Besides, Ellie and i have been like this since we were kids. What’s the problem?” 

Haley was momentarily speechless. Everyone in their circle knew about Alex’s engagement to a woman he had never met 

When Alex’s parents came to her house last time, they had mentioned not to worry about it, saying if Alex liked someone, he could just marry whoever he wanted. She didn’t dwell on it, yet hearing it still made her uncomfortable, 

“Alex, I don’t care how you and Ellie interacted before, but now that you’re with me, you need to respect my feelings. I don’t want to see anything like what just happened again! Haley’s eyes blazed red as she tossed the bracelet onto the bed. 

Alex put down his phone, placed the bracelet back in the jewelry box, and then reached for Haley’s hand, However, she pushed him away in frustration “Alex, I’m serious! What you just did goes beyond normal physical interaction between friends!” 

Alex chuckled and set the jewelry box aside, grabbing her wrist to pull her closer. “If I had any feelings for her, it wouldn’t be you here right now. Just admit it–you’re jealous 

“Alex” His casualness struck a nerve with Haley. Anger surged through her as she yanked her hand away and stormed out, slamming the door behind her 

Elhe got off work and tried to push away all the bad thoughts swirling in her head. After a quick shower and a small bite to eat, she smuggled into bed to catch up on her reading. 

Around nine in the evening, her phone rang. It was Alex. Remembering how he got hurt in the hospital while saving her. Ellie hesitated but

answered the call 

“Where have you been?” Alex sounded really upset. 

Ellie hesitated for a moment and replied honestly, I just got home from work.” 

“I got stabbed while trying to save you, and you’re just at home!! You scatterbrained idiot! Get back here now!” 

Ellie held the phone tightly, feeling the anger pouring through the screen. 

“I can’t. I’m already in bed,” she said quickly before hanging up. Haley had misunderstood her today, and she didn’t want to stir up more trouble for 

herself. 

Because of Alex’s call, Ellie lost her focus and couldn’t continue reading. Eventually, she dozed off, feeling all fuzzy when she suddenly sensed someone standing by her bedside. 

Startled, she shot up, letting out a scream! 

“Click” Alex turned on the light. 

When she looked again, she’d practically rolled into the far corner of her bed. 

Still shaken. Ellie patted her chest, trying to calm herself down. Slowly, color returned to her face. The last time Alex came over, she’d naively let him in, and he’d seen her password 

She hadn’t changed it yet, and now he remembered it and barged in–at midnight, no less. 

“Get me something to eat!” Alex glared at Ellic, raising his injured arm. 

Ellie hid under the covers. “Alex, you’re with Haley n 

now. Can’t you just stay away from my place?
