Chapter 55 

By the roadside, the two who were once inseparable lovers now scented more like enemies. 

Aaron looked at Haley, his voice flat “Whether Ellie and I know what we’re doing or not has nothing to do with you. No matter how poor my family is, I’ve never thought of abandoning them. Even though we’re poor, we have our own boundaries. 

“Ms. Owens, you’re from a weakly family and a top–tier education, yet you shoun and insult others in public. Where’s your upbringing!” Without further words, Aaron turned and walked away. 

Haley had pursued Aaron for over a year, and they had been together for more than that. In the end, it didn’t work out because he couldn’t measure up, and he accepted the loss 

Even though things didn’t end perfectly, she had still spent almost three years of her youth on him. So, when he realized that Haley was planning to leave, he just let things luppen without forcing anything. 

As a man, he thought a little disappointment was no big deal. Even after the breakup, he didn’t want to hurt or badmouth her. However, his family was off–limits he couldn’t tolerate anyone insulting them. 

Haley gazed at Aaron, who was tall and handsome, trying hard to hold back the tears in her eyes, but she couldn’t look away from him, hashing down the emotions inside, she got back in her car and called Ellis. 

Ellie’s face was innocent and charming. Even though she dressed conservatively, her figure was enviable, not to mention her sweet personality and those innocent eyes that could catch any guy’s attention.. 

Al Lacry’s welcome party last time, several young men in the private room were captivated by Ellie and privately asked for her contact

Faced with the choice between love and material wealth, Haley had chosen the latter. She knew she had to find a way to stop Elle from staying near Alex. She couldn’t let anything unexpected happen 

In the middle of the night. Ellie was awakened by her phone ringing Seeing a call from Haley, Ellie didn’t think twice and immediately hung up and blocked her number 

Ellie owed a debt to the Warren family, so she put up with Alex But she was determined not to let anyone bully her again. Pulling up the blanket. she went back to sleep. 

The next morning. Lacey called to invite Ellie to spend Christmas with her family, but Ellie turned her down. First, she felt it would be rude to interrupt their family time during the holidays. Plus, she didn’t want to show up empty–handed, and she didn’t have a lot of money to buy zifti 

anyway. 

Finally, Lacey decided on an abernative and suggested meeting at a newly opened bistro, Ellie couldn’t refuse anymore, so she agreed. 

By noon, when Ellie got there, Lacey and Layton had already arrived. The private room was small but nicely decorated with a table for ten in the center. Six sets of ubleware and six chairs were spaced generously 

Layton was sitting at the head of the table, and Ellie greeted them before sitting down next to Lacey. 

“Alex, what took you so long?” Layron joked. 

Following Layton’s gaze, Ellie saw Alex enter the private room. She vabily diverted her gaze and looked towards Lacey 

Lacey smiled and explained, “I know you don’t like big crowds, so 1 just invited Alex and Haley,” 

So. Haley will be there too Ellie suppressed the unease in her heart and quietly nodded

Chapter 35 

Since Alex was at the door, he had been watching Ellie. He walked straight to the empty seat next to her and sat down. 

Ellie kept her head down and stayed silent, yet she could feel Alex looking at her. But she wasn’t intending to greet him. Neither of them took the initiative to say hello, and the atmosphere was inexplicably akward. 

Layton’s curious eyes darted between Ellie and Alex before he cheekily said, “Alex, is your and Haley’s new house almost finished with the renovations! When are you planning to move in 

Alex slowly narrowed his eyes in a warning, while Layton had a playful look in his eyes. The two locked eyes across the table, and Alex said, “Soon” As he spoke, his gaze drifted back to Ellie. 

Ellie kept her head down, gripping the cup tightly, trying hard to suppress the emotions she couldn’t show. 

Just then, Haley arrived. Larry quickly stood up to greet her. “Haley, we’re just waiting on you 

Elle stayed quietly in her seat, not even looking up to acknowledge Haley’s arrival. Their relationship had reached this point, and she didn’t want to presend. 

When Haley walked in and saw Alex sitting with Ellie, her expression visibly stiffened. Since Alex showed no intention of getting up, she had to sit 

on his other side. 

As the waiter brought their food, Lacey asked, “Haley, when is your wedding with Alex happening”

Haley smiled at Alex, finally sending her gaze on Ellie. T’m not in a rush. But by then. I have you and Else as my b 

How could she be so hypocritical? Ellie felt a surge of sarcasm. 

Layton joked with a laugh. “You may not be in a hurry, but someone ebe is. Alex can’t wait to move in with you.“⠀⠀ 

Ax Layton teased and Haley responded bashfully. Ellie worked hard to maintain her composure. 

Lacey stood up to pour Ellie some juice and finally noticed something was wrong. “Ellie, you don’t look well. Are you okay??
