Underneath an abandoned bridge several uales from the hospital, Ellie looked around fearfully. Besides the two men who had kidnapped her, a few homeless people were staring at her with predatory eyes.
Broken tents and mats were scattered messily under the bridge, likely serving as the base for these people. Those gathered here were notorious for their violent clashes, drug use, and diseases. In a place like this, even the police specially avoid it at night–no one was going to come to rescue her.
Sering two men coming at her with evil istem, Ellie fumbled behind her frantically and finally clutched a small dry twig in her hand.
As one of them leaned in close with vulgar words, she jabbed the cig hard into his eye Instantly, a stream echoed under the quiet bridge, and Ellie got up and ran
“You slut.” The insults grew closer behind Elle, and suddenly, she slipped and fell to the ground. As the men slowed down and surrounded her, she was overwhelmed by a terror that felt like despair.

Behind a big tree, with one hand holding a gun around her waist and the other supporting the back of her head, he pressed her against him. “Tr okay. Don’t be scared,” he reassured gemily.
Ellie was trembling with fear, and Alex lowered his chin to rest on her shoulder. “As long as I’m alive, no one can touch you. Close your eyes and don’t think about anything”
Ellie, caught in a whirlwind of fear and panic, obediently shat her eyes. In the darkness, Alex leaned against the tree trunk, holding her close. The only sound around was their calm breathing.
Only when the angry voices faded into the distance did Alex slowly release Ellie. Seeing her pale face, he couldn’t hide the concern in his eyes as he teased softly. “You’re such a scaredy–cal,”
Alex’s voice was rough, but his touch was surprisingly gentle as he wiped away Ellie’s tears. Are you still going to keep treating me like a stranger!” he asked, his voice softer than he realized
Ellie lowered her gaze and stayed silent, her tears flowing even more
“Hop on,” Alex said, crouching down to give Ellie a piggyback ride.
Ellie rugged at him to get up. “You’re hurt. I can walk by myself, she insisted.
Alex gently tapped Ellie’s ankle. “Hop on. If you walk barefoot, you’ll end up hurting your fee
Ellie looked down and noticed she was missing a shoe.

Elle laid him down on the bed, her heart sinking at the sight of dried blood covering half his face. Tears streamed down her cheeks uncontrollably,
She grabbed her phone and sent a request to the front desk for some medical supplies. Then, kneeling beside him, she began to clean the wound on Alex’s forchrad
She thought about how Alex had risked his life in save her from those thigs; how he held her close and reassured her that as long as he was alive. no one would harm her, and how he kept carrying her despite bleeding, even when his steps were unsteady.
Ellie couldn’t stop herself from crying out loud. Trying to completely forget someone she loved was like quitting smoking there were no shortcuts, only the need to endure. She was doing fine, but why did he have to come here and disturb her heart again!
In the middle of the night, Alex woke up feeling disoriented with a splitting headache. When he saw Ellie sleeping with her head on the side of the bed, his pained look softened.
