Chapter 87 

Alex stood beside Ellie, his gaze fixed on her swollen, red eyes from crying. He quietly extended the issue he was holding towards her. 

Ellie glanced down at the tissue but made no move to take it 

Seeing her reluctance. Alex pressed the tissue into her hand. 

Without a word. Elle looked down and tossed the tissue into the trash can 

Alex was left speechless, 

Neither of them spoke, and the hospital room fell into a heavy silence. 

Feeling Alex’s eyes on her, Ellie gently tucked Carlos’s hand under the blanket and stood up to leave. 

Just as Ellie turned to walk out, Alex instinctively reached for her hand. Their fingers brushed, and she quickly pulled away 

His throat tightened, and he called out softly, “Ellie…” 

Ellie didn’t look back or pause. Alex watched her leave, his hand slowly dropping so his side. 

After Ellie went out. Nancy and Todd entered the room. The couple looked at their son, expressions filled with disapproval. 

“Aren’t you supposed to be celebrating Thanksgiving with that little brat? She even came to the hospital to see your grandfather, and here you are, just standing around!” Nancy said sharply. 

Alex, irritated by his mother’s jab, was about to storm off when Carlos stirred awake 

About ten minutes later, Alex left the room with his parents, frustration simmering inside h

Todd said, “Your grandfather has made it clear. If you don’t apologize to Mr. Thompson today, he won’t eat anything so hurry up 

Nancy added. “You better listen, you little punk! If you don’t apologize to Aunt Joanna properly this time. I swear, you won’t be my son anymore!” 

“Finet I’ll go!” Alex snapped, tugging at his collar and striding out. 

The next morning. Alex found out that Ellie’s father was awake. He rushed to the hospital to apologize, only to discover that the Thompson family had left. He ran all the way 

the bus station, where he spotted them about to board abus 

Without thinking, he dashed over. 

As the bus doors closed, Alex stood at the window, using his height to reach it. “Mr. Thompson, about that day. 

Before he could finish, Ellie’s dad swung his wooden cane at Alex’s head. “Crap?” Alex shouted, dodging just in time. 

The bus slowly started moving as Alex rubbed his head. He moved to the bark window and called out, “Ellie!” 

Ellie closed the window, Alex’s teeth clenched in frustration. “You little brat, open that window! 

Ellie put on her headphones. Desperate, Alex pushed his way to the front window. “Mrs. Thompson, please talk to her 

Without waiting for Alex to speak, Harold brought down the cane again Alex ducked once more. 

Watching the bus pull away. Alex stood there, hands on his hips, head still throbbing 

After a while, he bent down to pick up the wooden cane lying on the ground. “Old man, you’ve got a bigger temper than I do! No wonder that little brat is so stubborn, she’s just like her dad” 

“Think you can hit me? Without this cane, let’s see how you manage. I’ll hang onto this for now. Once your other leg gives out, it’ll make a nice pair. 

Muttering under his breath, Alex tested the cane’s weight before heading back to his sports car. 

On Thanksgiving, amidst a comical series of events, three families faced their own struggles 

Aaron and Ellie only spent a day in their hometown with their parents before waking up early the next morning to head back to Jaslands for work.

At the entrance of Jaslands Hospital, Aaron handed a bag to Ellie. “Think carefully about joining the Warrens,” he advised. 

With an uncommon determination in her eyes. Ellie replied, “Brother, I’ve made up my mind. I want to go through with it” 

No matter how much Alex threatened to stop her, she was set on joining the Warren family! Becoming the adopted daughter of the top–notch Warren family would mean she’d be under the protection of their eklers.

Her tone was almost condescending as if she was offering a grand favor. 

Aaron, cold and blint, asked, “Are you done?” 

Haley continued, “Look, the only heir to the Warren family is Alex. Even if Ellie joins the Warrens, she won’t benefit at all. 

“Plus, the older generation in the family won’t be able to stop me from being with Alex. Sooner or later, I’ll become the lady of the Warren family. and don’t blame me if I treat Ellie badly then? 

“Good luck with that!” Aaron replied with cool detachment, turning on his heel and walking away:
