Chapter 7
The media descended like vultures at Scott’s declaration. Cameras and microphones pressed forward as reporters jostled for position, their questions overlapping in an eager nish.
“Are you the bodyguard Miss Sage has been seeing?
n seeing? How can you prove
ou prove her innocence? A reporter thrust her microphone forward. “Have you
examined her condition before?
Another pushed through the crowd. “You risked your life for her. Is marriage the expected reward? Would the Sage family actually accept a bodyguard!”
Before Scott could capitalize on the moment, Aurora’s voice sliced through the chaos with surgical precision. “He isn’t my rescuer
The crowd erupted, but she remained composed as she turned to face Scott. Her lip curled slightly as she took in his immaculate appearance.
She said calmly, “The audacity is impressive. You claim to have saved me from armed kidnappers, yet you only got a few scrapes. Did you think I wouldn’t notice?”
As everyone’s expression changed, she continued, her tone icy. “Drop the devoted lover act. I’d rather die single than lower myself to marry a bodyguardTM
Elias had always known Scott was up to no good with his daughter. Now that she had seen the bodyguard’s true colors, he was both relieved and furious
“The nerve of you! A lowly bodyguard dares to play with my daughter’s feelings? You must think we’re idiots. Get him out of here and make sure he never shows his face in Ravin City again!” he thundered
The security team, all former subordinates of Scott, moved to remove him, but he held his ground. “Il leave willingly, but not before clearing my name. Let me speak to Miss Sage”
He turned to Aurora with practiced anguish tainting his features. “I put my life on the line for you. Why turn on me now! Just because of my
Aurora stood regally, chin up, eyes flashing with cold indifference. She gave him a steely look and dropped a bombshell. “I should thank the kidnappers. Their liule scheme showed me exactly who you are”
“You’re not thinking clearly.” Scott stammered before drawing himself up. In front of cameras, he put on a brave face, holding his head high and speaking with firm resolve.
“My ferlings were real. I
ver wanted to climb the social ladder through you. Poor or not, I have my dignity. Marriage into your family was never my goal. Reject me if you must, but you can’t erase what I sacrificed for you!” he added.
“And what sacrifice was that? Her laughs was cold and mocking. “Where exactly were you during my kidnapping?”
“They knocked me out,” he said, sweat beginning to bead on
I on his forehead.
“Then how did you find me when my father’s extensive search failed?” she pressed
“I overheard their plans before losing consciousness,” he sputtered.
“And you single–handedly overcame an armed gang to rescue me?” She didn’t stop there.
His composure cracked further. “I almost died for you Isn’t that proof enough?”
Scott had been thrilled to be Aurora’s hero, not bothering to c question the rescue details since he knew she liked him. But he never expected her change so drastically after the kidnapping
“How many kidnappers were there the continued to ask relentlessly.
He paused before answering. “Three. Their leader was tough, around 200 pounds.”
She smirked at his answer. “Where was I held?”
abandoned building. They were playing cans when I arrived,” he replied.
“Tars” Her shout echoed through the suddenly silent hallway. Teary glinted like diamonds in her eyes. “There were five kidnappers, three armes. They worked rotating shifts, two at night and two by day. The big one handled ransom negotiations”
