Mother Pan immediately understood how serious her second sister-in-law's situation could be. She turned to her daughter-in-law, took her hand, and asked gently, "Xue'er, could you ask your friend? Maybe they still have some stock left."
Bai Xue'er had long disliked her second aunt's daughter.
As the Mayor's daughter, she acted arrogant and entitled, constantly bragging about her family's status and showing off. She was already twenty years old but still behaved like a spoiled child.
Normally, Bai Xue'er would ignore her. But now, that foolish girl had stirred up trouble, and her mother had the audacity to come here and threaten her.
If she had known this would happen, she wouldn't have helped them in the first place, no matter how much the relatives begged. What began as a good deed had now turned into a complete headache.
After a long silence, Bai Xue'er looked at the second aunt and asked, "Second Aunt, are you threatening me?"
Hearing this, the second aunt avoided her gaze and said awkwardly, "Xue'er, how can you say that about your second aunt?"
Bai Xue'er sneered and said, "If you didn't mean to threaten me, then why say those things?"
"It was your daughter who couldn't keep her mouth shut and bragged to everyone. It's you who your husband's family is blaming, so what does that have to do with my husband or my father-in-law?"
Hearing this, Mother Pan finally understood and asked, "Second Sister-in-law, did your relatives find out the grain came from my daughter-in-law?"
The second aunt hesitated before admitting, "Sister-in-law, it's my fault. I shouldn't have told my children about this."
That was all Mother Pan needed to hear. Her expression darkened as she pointed at the second aunt and said, "Second sister-in-law, my family helped you out of kindness. Is this how your family repays us?"
"Sister-in-law, please calm down. My daughter didn't mean to cause trouble, it was just a slip of the tongue," the second aunt pleaded.
Bai Xue'er snorted coldly and said, "What a convenient 'slip of the tongue.'" The sarcasm in her voice was thick.
"Xue'er, you can't—"
Before the second aunt could finish, Bai Xue'er cut her off, "What can't I do?"
She took a deep breath to calm her anger, then said coldly, "Second Aunt, don't tell me you don't know your daughter's personality. You know full well she can't keep a secret and loves to show off. As the Mayor's wife, how can you not understand how serious this matter is?"
"You never discipline your daughter. Now, when she creates a huge mess, you expect me to clean it up? Don't you think you have gone too far?"
"And let's not even talk about your arrogance. You come here asking for help, and you dare to use my husband and father-in-law to pressure me. Is that how you beg for help?" she asked sharply.
The second aunt was thoroughly embarrassed as her intentions had been exposed.
