After Clarissa ended the call, Kathryn turned to Holden and Marco. “I told Mom. You can go home now,” she said.

Holden and his sons had overheard Kathryn’s conversation with her mother. Feeling uneasy, they suspected Clarissa wanted Kathryn to be kinder to her brothers. But Kathryn was not inclined to listen.
