Serenity wasn’t short of food; she just wanted Jane to know she was looking forward to the trip.

Jane smiled. “Yes, they raise a lot. I keep telling them not to, but they insist. They even sent me a dozen chickens over the holidays. Every time I go back, they load my car with eggs, rice, homemade peanut oil, sweet potatoes, and taro.”

“They always complain that my trunk is too small and joke that I should drive a truck. They say nine out of ten daughters are thieves, and I feel like one every time!”
