Chapter 4512
Donovan figured that when he had the time, he’d go to Wiltspoon himself and look into River’s family background.
If River’s background checked out, maybe he could stir the pot and push these so-called “mortal enemies” toward becoming a couple.
He actually admired River quite a bit.
And he didn’t say anything negative about Romina getting close with River’s cousin’s wife,
Seren. Through her, they could learn more about River’s family. But of course, he’d still have to investigate for himself—Seren might be biased and paint River in a perfect light.
“Alright, I’ll message Maddox tomorrow and see if he’s free that night.”
Romina still had Maddox’s contact info, though they hadn’t really stayed in touch. Nothing had progressed romantically between them. Both had demanding schedules and barely had time to talk.
Donovan said, “If something does spark between you two, try giving it a real chance. Marriage needs time and understanding. But don’t drag it out too long—you’re almost thirty. For women, that number feels different. Guys hit their prime at thirty, but people start calling women ‘old’ at that age.”
Romina patted her cheeks. “Brother, do I look like an old lady? I wear pink, and people mistake me for a teenager.”
Donovan replied, “But your age is there, Romina. If you stay single forever, don’t worry—I’ll take care of you for life. And when I’m gone, your nieces and nephews will. But we can’t replace the role of a life partner. That companionship is different.”
“Everyone eventually builds their own little family. We won’t always be by your side. But the one who marries you—that’s the person who’s meant to walk beside you through old age.”
He added gently, “I really do want you to get married, but don’t rush into anything just because you’re getting older. Don’t settle. Marriage is something you never compromise on. If the guy’s not right, don’t do it. You’ve got the freedom not to.”
Romina nodded. “Exactly. I won’t compromise—not in marriage, not in life. Why should I? I was born with everything. I’ve always had what I wanted. Why would I settle now?” She had the luxury to be choosy, and she knew it.
Donovan didn’t bring up River again.
Romina had clearly made up her mind to give things another try with Maddox. So be it.
The Johnstone family was based in Eaglioncile, and their families already had strong business ties. If Romina and Maddox worked out, she wouldn’t have to move far.
Sure, River was outstanding—but he was from Wiltspoon, and they still didn’t know much about his background or his family’s values.
Still, Donovan wondered—if Romina and Maddox really started dating, would River get jealous?
Would he realize he had feelings for her?
Donovan smiled to himself.
He’d love to see River fall hard—and fight to win Romina over.
