‘Or is she afraid to talk when she sees strangers?’
She thought in her heart. Looking at Lillian’s face again, she seemed to see the shadows of Madeline and Jeremy from her facial features and eyes.
Shirley was taken aback. Was this Jeremy and Madeline’s child?
As Shirley wondered about this, Carter slammed the door shut.
He obviously would not let Lillian go.
“ Is this Jeremy and Eveline’s daughter?” Shirley voiced the doubt in her heart.
Carter paused when he heard the words. He said nothing, answering Shirley’s question with silence.
Shirley also instantly understood Carter’s silence. She looked at Lillian and then she chuckled.
“So, this was why you insisted on coming to F Country.”
Upon hearing Shirley’s words, Carter denied without hesitation.
“No.”
“No?” Shirley chuckled again. “Carter, you still want to have your revenge and take action against Jeremy, don’t you? You always think that Jeremy and Eveline are the reason you’re like this today, don’t you?”
The moment she finished talking, Carter suddenly turned to face Shirley. His expression and eyes sank suddenly.
“Even if they had nothing to do with where I’ve fallen to today, but what about our child?
“Didn’t Jeremy kill that child?
“Shirley, what made you the way you are now? Where is your fighting spirit? You weren’t like this back then! ”
“Back then, I was forced by you to be what you wanted, now I just want to be myself.”
“You’re afraid that I’ll hurt this little thing, huh?” Carter peered at Lillian.
“If you’re afraid, you need to listen to me from now on. Then, I’ll promise to let this little thing stay alive safely.”
Carter stated his request in a threatening tone.
Shirley looked at the handsome face in front of him, and suddenly, she felt that this man was abnormally foreign.
Was he still that cultured, refined, cold, and noble young man?
No, he had not been that since a very long time ago.
Presently, to him, his heart no longer had anything of beauty. There was only hatred.
Although Lillian was very young and could not speak, she was smart. She knew she could not leave now. She did not make a fuss, but she reached her little hand into her pocket to take out a card instead. She then handed the card to Shirley gently.
