Chapter 43
Started by Zane’s request, Lianne backed off and swiftly widened the distance between them.
With her shying away, Zane’s eyes darkened behind the silver-framed spectacles. “It’ll be impossible to hail a cab around the area at this hour. The guest bedrooms are on the second floor. Feel free to pick one and stay the night.”
Lianne was lost for words.
So, there was a decent explanation for her boss’ invitation. It was all in her head.
Zane got up to retrieve the first aid kit and took out a green tube. “Apply this to your injury after showering.”
“Thank you, Mr. Atlas!” Lianne graciously accepted the cream. As for staying the night, Lianne did not think it was necessary.
Even though they would be staying on different floors, it was not a good idea for a man and a woman to be alone under one roof. “I won’t stay the night in case I disturb your rest.”
Zane replied, “I’m on the third floor while you would be on the second floor. How would you be bothering me? Are your legs long enough to kick the ceiling?”
Lianne had no words.
Zane added. “It’s two o’clock in the morning, and you will be returning here in a few hours anyway.
Are you sure you don’t want to stay the night?”
It then struck Lianne that she was supposed to meet with the planning team at the residence first thing in the morning to discuss the details of Zane’s birthday celebration. She gave a nod. “I’ll get some rest here, then. Goodnight, Mr. Atlas.”
The villa had three floors, and Zane’s bedroom and study were on the top floor. While the second floor was often left empty, Mrs. Cook would keep up with the cleaning schedule.
There were two guest bedrooms on the second floor, and Lianne picked the corner room.
The room, decorated in pink, was neat and tidy. The bedding was new, meaning that no one had stayed before.
There was a new bathrobe in the bathroom and all the toiletries she needed were stocked. She was basically living in a five-star hotel.
A lot happened today. Lianne had flown from the snowy highlands of Weston to the warm weather Rosewood, straight to signing the divorce papers and meeting a car accident.
Not to mention, she had to be Zane’s designated driver.
Lianne was exhausted. When she got out of the shower, she instantly collapsed in bed, and it did not take long before she drifted to sleep.
Lianne’s body clock worked like a charm. It did not matter whether it was the weekend or if she slept late the night before. Her eyes would pop open at six o’clock in the morning.
However, it seemed Zane was up earlier than her. As Lianne opened the curtain and looked out the window at the swimming pool in the backyard, a man in swimming trunks stood by the pool.
He had a height of 1.88 meters, well-defined abs, a sculpted jawline, and mesmerizing eyes that could make women weak behind the knees…
For the first time, Lianne realized the body under the white shirt and black pants was more ravishing than his face.
No woman would cheat on such an amazing man. Unless…
Lianne’s mind wandered to the remark Morgan once made. “Your CEO might be pleasing to the eye, but I doubt you’ll get any use out of him.”
Maybe Zane lacked a certain department to satisfy his wife, leading her to have an affair.
Lianne was spooked by her dirty thoughts.
How could she perceive her boss in such a manner?
She shut the curtains to stop her wandering eyes so her mind would not go further down the gutter.
Lianne washed up and dressed into the clothes she had thrown into the washer and dryer last night. Then, she got ready to make breakfast.
She arrived at the staircase on the second floor when Mrs. Cook stepped into the house. Mrs. Cook was pleasantly surprised by the presence of a young and beautiful woman in the residence.
You’re here, Mrs. Atlas.”
“Mrs. Cook, I’m Lianne. Mr. Atlas had a bit to drink last night, so I drove him home. I stayed in the guest bedroom on the second floor since it was late,” Lianne explained.
She stressed the room where she laid her head to rest to avoid any unnecessary
misunderstanding.
