Chapter 52
Lianne knew this card game was different from the last time she played. As she did not know how to play, she did not dare to take Zane’s place.
Just when she opened her mouth to refuse, Zane said, “Just play as you wish. It doesn’t matter whether you win or lose.”
Lianne had to go to the table. Even though Zane said she could play casually, she felt pressured for fear that she might accidentally lose enough money to buy a house.
Eugene held Rosa’s hand and put down a card. “Zane, life is short. Treat yourself better while you’re young. You should date when you can. Don’t live like an ascetic.”
Zane ignored him. Lianne whispered for help on the side, “Mr. Atlas, which card should I play?” Zane stretched out his hand and took out a card from her hand with his slender fingertips. “Don’t panic. Just do whatever you want.”
Since he was so close to her, Lianne could smell the faint woody fragrance from him. It was very faint but pleasant. Thus, she was a little distracted.
Seeing the small interaction between the two, Eugene laughed and joked. “Zane, is it because you fancy someone else now that you’re in a rough patch with your wife?”
Eugene purposely glanced at Lianne. What he implied was obvious.
Zane glanced at him with a cold gaze. “You can tease me, but don’t damage the girl’s reputation.” Eugene shrugged. “If you have someone you like, go after her boldly. As the saying goes, you might just miss out on this opportunity if you wait too long.”
Zane said, “Just focus on the game.”
Eugene replied, “Okay, okay…”
The whole afternoon was spent at the poker table. While everyone had a great time playing, every
minute was torture to Lianne.
At the end of the game, Lianne lost all of Zane’s chips.
Eugene was delighted. “Zane, you finally lost this time! We have to think about how much we can get from you.”
Zane gently pushed up his silver glasses frame on the bridge of his nose. “Go ahead.”
The three couples stayed together. Lianne was assigned to Room 202, while Zane stayed in Room 201. Eugene and Rosa were in Room 203.
It was especially quiet in the mountains at night, and the temperature was several degrees lower than in the city. The suite felt so empty, leaving Lianne feeling lonely and terrified.
Just as Lianne was about to video call Sierra and Tyler, she heard some ambiguous noises coming from next door.
Lianne covered her ears in embarrassment, but she could still hear the noises clearly.
It went on for ten to thirty minutes or even longer. Lianne finally survived the noises and thought. she could go to sleep peacefully. Unexpectedly, the rhythmic moans sounded again.
Lianne could not stand listening to it anymore, so she put on her coat, wanting to hide in the yard for a while. She would only come back after the couple next door finished their business.
Unexpectedly, as soon as Lianne walked out of the room, she saw Zane calmly smoking at his door.
