Charlotte lowered her eyes and stared at her toes in a daze.
"Charlotte, our family have been kind to you, even if you are not my daughter, I have offered you a lot since you were a little child. Now the Nelson family finds you, and you become Mrs. Wilson’s daughter. You don’t want to disown us now, do you? Of course, it doesn’t matter if you want to disown us. You know, you gotta cover the big expense for raising you up."
Charlotte looked up at her in amazement.
When she was still hesitating, she didn't expect Mrs. Wilson to tell her the truth so quickly.
Her eyes trembled, "So...Am I really not your biological daughter?"
Mrs. Wilson wondered about her reactions, why was she upset? Mr. Wilson stood aside, staring at Charlotte with a mixture of emotions, and sighed, "Charlotte, you are definitely... not our daughter, ... you were a child we adopted from the orphanage."
Mr. Wilson said gently as usual. Charlotte gave him a look and found that her father seemed to be much older than before. She could see he cared for her in his dull eyes, but his words hurt her.
She lowered her eyes again and said with a wry smile, "I didn't expect all of this to be true. I have considered I myself was your biological daughter until now. I didn’t believe what Megan said before, but I didn't expect... all of this... is true."
"Are you okay?" Mrs. Wilson couldn't help but look at her in surprise when she hearing Charlotte’s words, "To be a member of Nelson family is better for you, isn’t it? I got to know that although it is not as prominent as the Moore family, it is still a leading family in B City. What’s wrong with being a daughter of this family? Charlotte, get real. From now on, you are one of the family member of the Nelson family, Mrs. Nelson’s daughter. We are honored and privileged to be your adoptive parents. Don’t forget Christina - she’s your sister."
Speaking of this, Mrs. Wilson came over and put her hands on Charlotte’s shoulders, "Did you hear me? Your sister loves you most, and she has always known that you care about her very much. If there is anything you can do for her...you know, you should be there if she needs you. Or, do you think the Nelson family want another daughter? How about bringing her to the Nelson family"
"..." Charlotte was speechless.
"I'll ask you one last time, ain't I your daughter? You lied to me for wealth and honour, right? We have lived together for so many years, I don't believe..."
"What nonsense are you talking about? What do you mean I lied to you for wealth and honour? How can lineage be faked? Besides...you are from the Nelson family indeed. Even if you are not their daughter, you are not our daughter. Your father is right, you are the child we adopted in the orphanage."
"Why?" Charlotte gave a wry smile "Why... did you want to adopt me?"
Mrs. Wilson turned her face away, "Don't ask me, anyway...that’s it."
Mr. Wilson sighed and told her the truth.
"At the beginning, we married for many years but she didn’t get pregnant. Then a fortune teller advised us to adopt one child in a orphanage. Unexpectedly, we met you when we got there. You were adorable, so we liked you very much, then took you home."
Having said that, Charlotte could probably guess what happened next.
"But you didn't expect that not long after you adopted me, you would have your own daughter, right?"
He nodded, "Yes, that was something we didn't expect."
