Chapter 24: He Wouldn’t Be Your Fiancé, Would He? 

Seraphina West rushed to greet the handsome mixed–race man, her smile as bright as a sunflower. The treatment she gave this “old classmate” was vastly different from the one she gave Lily Lane. 

“Who are you?” the man asked. 

Lily Lane snickered. “She’s throwing herself at someone who doesn’t even remember her,” she whispered to Sonya. 

Sonya tugged at Lily Lane.“Let’s go inside.” 

“No way. I need to watch this.” 

Seraphina West’s forced smile was faltering. Luna Stone quickly stepped in. 

“This is Seraphina West, our high school’s prom queen.” 

The man tried to recall.“But wasn’t my uncle the prom king *and* queen?” Luna Stone chuckled nervously.“Yeah, your uncle was both prom king and queen back then.” To spare Seraphina West’s embarrassment, she joked, “The school walls had to be rebuilt every few months because students from other schools would scale them to catch a glimpse of Jason Reynolds’s uncle. Remember that, Seraphina?” 

Seraphina West laughed to cover her embarrassment.“Of course! To prevent other schools from stealing our prom king, we even formed a ‘Flower Protection Society‘ among the students.” “I was the head of the Sixth–Grade branch,” Luna Stone added, laughing Lily Lane shook her head, whispering, “I’m cringing for both of them.” 

Sonya agreed; it was incredibly awkward. 

Seraphina West then pulled Julian Jennings toward Jason Reynolds.“You two were classmates since middle school, and even in the same class in high school.” 

Julian Jennings clearly wasn’t pleased with Seraphina West’s fawning introduction. He said, hands in his pockets, “We just met a few days ago.” 

“Oh really?” Seraphina West feigned curiosity. 

“Yeah, about a business project.” 

“Oh, that’s great! As classmates,

your 

collaboration 

will be smooth sailing.” 

Jason Reynolds grinned, leaning back lazily, extending a hand.“Old friend, you’re not still mad at me, are you?” 

Julian Jennings scoffed, briefly shaking Jason Reynolds’s hand.“Collaborations require mutual benefit. If the odds are stacked against us, there’s no point.” 

“I admire your ability to let go.” 

“It’s not just Jennings that can let go. Reynolds Corp let go too. We’re both the client and the supplier.” 

“Still different. Many companies are desperate to work with us.” 

Julian Jennings’s face darkened, returning his hands to his pockets.

Seraphina West signaled to Luna 

Stone 

Luna Stone pulled Jason Reynolds toward a private room.“It’s noisy out here. Let’s have a drink. inside.” 

Jason Reynolds playfully stroked Luna Stone’s chin, making her giggle. As they passed Sonya and Lily Lane, Luna Stone looked at them with a knowing smile. 

Lily Lane nudged Sonya.“See? There’s always someone bigger and better. Even Seraphina West has to butter up this guy. Even Julian Jennings can be shut down.” 

“Julian, you and Jason Reynolds seem close. Reynolds Corp’s entertainment division is investing in a historical drama. Many top actresses are vying for roles. I really like one character. Can you help me get it through Jason Reynolds?” Seraphina West whispered to Julian Jennings. Julian Jennings frowned.“So you brought me here to get you a role?” 

“I can’t do it myself. I don’t know him, but I know you two are friends.” “We’re not friends anymore.” 

“Because of that incident? It’s been years. Just apologize for me.” 

“I have something else to do.” 

As Julian Jennings tried to leave, Seraphina West clung to his arm.“Julian, please help me. You wouldn’t want me to be upset, would you?” 

He sighed and stayed. 

Luna Stone came out of the private room.“What’s wrong with you two? I invited him, and you’re chatting outside?” 

Seraphina West dragged Julian Jennings inside.“Maybe we can talk more about that project.” “There’s nothing to talk about.” 

Luna Stone remembered something, looked at Sonya, and started laughing. “Sonya, do you know that guy?” 

Sonya frowned. Why was she asking? 

“You don’t?” 

Luna Stone laughed even harder, gesturing to Seraphina West.“Look at her. She’s a joke.” Seraphina West joined in, but pretended to be concerned for Sonya. 

“Sonya, oh dear, I’m worried you’ll be cyberbullied again.” 

Lily Lane huffed.“What are you two giggling about?” 

Luna Stone glared at Lily Lane, then turned back to Sonya, suppressing her laughter.“You said the villa in Clouds Wood Block 8 was bought for you by your fiancé?” 

Sonya frowned. She hadn’t said that, but Seraphina West clearly told Luna Stone. 

“Haha, you don’t recognize him?”
