Marrying the Man in the Dark (Damien and Cherise) novel Chapter 714

Chapter 714 Lucy’s New Job

Cherise coughed and sipped her coffee lightly. “In any case, I don’t want him to realize how deeply I care for him before we officially tie the knot again.”

“I understand.” Lucy sighed. I’ve kept numerous secrets for you. One more won’t make much of a difference.” The woman picked up her coffee and took a delicate sip. “How’s the new job?”

Cherise beamed. “It’s pretty good. No one at the institute is concerned about my troubled past, and everyone is amicable and supportive. I’ve worked for less than a day, but it’s been a positive experience.”

“That’s reassuring.” Lucy nodded. “Given your gentle nature, I was concerned you might be taken advantage of.”

“You’re overthinking!” Cherise chuckled as she picked up the coffee pot and refilled her and Lucy’s cups. “What about you? What kind of a job are you considering after returning to Adania? Should I inquire if the director has an opening for you?”

“Forget it!” Lucy promptly waved her hand. “I can’t endure the monotony of sitting in an office all day at the institute.” She settled into a comfortable position in her seat. “Don’t worry about me. An old friend. recommended me for a job as a private physician.

Lucy felt somewhat pleased when she mentioned her new job. “My friend said he’s a wealthy bachelor with no severe illnesses. He just started smoking and drinking a few years ago as he worked late nights. Although the company is performing well, his health has deteriorated.”

“He happened to be looking for a private physician and nutritionist, and my friend thought I was a good fit for the job, so she forwarded my resume to him. I was immediately hired.”

Cherise widened her eyes, somewhat taken aback. “Without even going for an interview?”

“He said it wasn’t necessary.” Lucy sipped her coffee, “Anyway, it doesn’t matter. Perhaps the man was captivated by my beauty when he saw how young and attractive I am.”

“You’re so vain.” Cherise rolled her eyes at Lucy. But what if he’s an elderly man captivated by your beauty? What will you do?”

“Nothing. He can’t hurt me. I can tolerate him looking at me.” Lucy said as she settled into a comfortable. position in her chair. “Besides, I’ve already signed the contract. Even if he’s an old grump, I must care for him for a year.”

“If it wasn’t for the lucrative pay, I wouldn’t have agreed so readily. My dad is facing financial troubles. recently, and I’m his only daughter. I can’t just stand by and watch, right? I can earn over half a million by caring for this old grump for a year. I have no other choice.”

“Why didn’t you tell me your family is having problems?” Cherise pursed her lips while tightly clutching the coffee cup. “After all, I’m also a part of the Tanner family…

“Enough.” Lucy waved her hand, “You’re reluctant to spend the Tanner and Miles family’s money for yourself. Why should I burden you?” She glanced at her watch. “It’s about time. I should go meet that old grump. Wish me luck!” The woman yawned, picked up her handbag, and left.

Cherise stayed in her spot and watched Lucy leave as she sighed softly. As she sat in the coffee shop, she

grew more worried as she pondered, so she dialed Damien’s number. “Can you arrange for someone to safeguard Lucy?”

“She signed a one-year agreement with a wealthy man she hasn’t met. I’m afraid he might be someone with malicious intent…”
