Daryl hesitated, but Zack thought she was going to refuse. His face turned pale and his features were tense. He gripped her waist so hard, Daryl was afraid she might get crushed.
'Til give you one night to think about it!" Zack's voice was so cold Daryl felt the chill to her bones.
Daryl hit him hard on his chest, struggling to get out of his grip.
"Let go of me!"
"Don't test my patience. Bennie likes you. Don't let that go to waste and seize the opportunity!" Zack gritted his teeth. Seeing how flustered she was becoming, he released her.
No woman in her right mind would react like this after hearing his proposal.
Women would pounce on any opportunity to be with him, but not Daryl. That one avoided him as if he was a poisonous snake or a scorpion. She defied him any chance she could. She was very stubborn and tried so hard to pretend to be strong, Zack thought it was stupid!
Zack let her go. He then turned around and strode away.
As soon as he was out of the kitchen, Zack pulled off the tie from his chest. From it, he caught the faint scent of the woman. His breath hitched and whatever anger there was inside of him immediately got replaced with sadness. As soon as Benjamin finished taking a shower, he rushed downstairs.
Seeing his dad's dark face, Benjamin couldn't help but swallow and asked, "Daddy, did you have a fight with Mommy?"
'Why is he angry again?
How is Mommy?'
Benjamin tried to look around for Daryl, but he was picked up by Zack.
"Just watch TV!"
Zack's face darkened and his tone was full of warning.
Benjamin wouldn't want to get in trouble again. He just sat on the sofa with Zack. As loud as he could, he shouted, "Mommy, are you okay?"
Daryl responded after a while.
"I'm fine. Bennie, don't worry. Dinner will be ready in ten minutes, okay?"
"Okay," Bennie answered. He tried to eavesdrop on what was happening in the kitchen. To his relief, there were sounds of pots, pans and running water.
The kitchen was filled with scents of different food being prepared and cooked.
Although Zack had gone out, Daryl still felt his breath in the kitchen.
His warm breath, the heat of his hand especially when he put it against her waist, his voice—so deep that it made the butterflies in her stomach flutter—she couldn't get all of these off her mind. He just proposed to her!
She knew that Zack wanted to do it for Benjamin. Knowing that, she couldn't find any reason to refuse.
She tried to push the thoughts out of her mind and decided to just focus on preparing for dinner.
Benjamin was so excited and happy. He was eating more than what he usually did.
Zack, on the other side, was the complete opposite. His face was expressionless as he took in what was on the table. There was nothing special about it, just simple home cooking. He glanced at his son who was almost dancing in excitement. Benjamin was overreacting.
He took a bite and was immediately surprised. The dishes tasted a lot better than what he had imagined.
He had always been picky about food, only eating food cooked by the best chefs. However, the woman's home -made dishes really appealed to him.
Zack did not let his emotions show. He tried to put up an air of indifference. "It's disgusting."
Taken aback, Daryl bit her lips and asked, "Is it really that bad?"
It couldn't be that bad.
Daryl picked up some food and took a bite. It didn't taste bad at all.
