Riley took off her gloves and the nurse put on a new pair.
In the operating room next door, the patient’s heartbeat was dropping sharply, seemingly as if it would soon stop completely.
“What’s going on?”
Riley entered inside and Robert glanced at Moriah and cursed mercilessly, “You are doing an operation with just such skill? Saving life is not a game! Get out of here!”
Moriah gritted her teeth and said, “It’s not my fault that the patient’s heart is bleeding, it is your bad skill and yet you blame me!”
“Get out of here!” Robert was furious; if he wasn’t currently operating on someone then he would be shoving her out right now.
Riley stepped in for Moriah and said calmly, “Dr. Smith, let’s try to remain calm, can we begin now?”
“Yes, let’s draw some blood!”
Whoosh!
Her nimble technique really amazed Robert.
“You…” Dr. Smith wanted to ask who she was but Riley then said directly, “Mr. Smith, we’re still not at the point we need to be at, please continue on.”
“Got it.”
Only by comparison would you notice that Dr. Smith’s speed was only half that of William’s, but he was called the best doctor in their department, so it seemed that in the future he could to be replaced.
“Preparing to… invert the left atrium.”
After Riley inverted the left atrium with ease, it was then easy for him to handle the next step.
This time Dr. Smith was even more surprised, he wondered just how many times she had done this now?
With Riley here partaking in the operation, the rest of the operation went very successfully. Dr. Smith smiled and said, “Well I will leave the rest for you, is that alright?”
“Of course it’s fine.”
“Thank you Dr. Watson.”
Dr. Smith then walked out of the operating room and when he saw William sitting outside who had clearly just been operating for a very long time, he gave a heartfelt smile and said, “I had no idea that there would be such an exceptional talent hidden within the internal medicine department. Mr. Hardesty, would it be alright for her to join my team and become my deputy?”
William smiled and said, “I’m very sorry but I’m afraid she has already been claimed by another.”
The cooperation between them was exceptional, so as long as Riley was willing then if she wanted she could immediately transfer to the surgical department.
Robert then frowned and said, “As for that Moriah, I really just cannot understand how she was awarded the title of professor! Well, I think from now on it would be better to stay away from those who pretend to be better than they actually are.”
William thought deeply after hearing this, at the time of the selection Ms. Pouchain strongly supported Moriah to be chosen, so how was it possible she could be this bad?
Riley was sewing on the stiches onto the patient with ease, she had continued to made every achievement all these years and has never faltered, she simply was a born surgeon!
The anaesthesiologist and instrumentalist next to her were both dumbfounded.
After the two operations performed ended successfully, her body was aching slightly, her face was both pale and soaked with sweat for she hadn’t taken a break for twelve hours now…
When she finally came out of operating room 5 it was already 10:30pm. With two operations in succession and a lack of sleep from the night before, she truly looked exhausted.
Once she took off her mask, you could see she had lost all colour from her face.
“How are you doing?”
William couldn’t help but support her arm with his hand which shocked Riley slightly who took a step back, “I’m fine, why is it that you are still here?’
“I’m waiting for a member of my team.”
Riley looked back and saw a couple of doctors steering the patient out of the room, “They’re inside?”
William shook his head, “She’s already come out, it’s just she doesn’t know this yet.”
Riley was silent for a while until she said, “Are you talking about me? You are mistaken Mr. Hardesty, I am a member of the internal medicine department.”
“There is no distinction between the internal medicine and surgery department. You are very skilled and I think your talents are better suited towards doing surgery. I won’t force you to do anything but I hope that you will consider it carefully and become my deputy. Perhaps you would like to do surgeries yourself one day, and if so I would be happy to help and support you.”
To learn together with him was a once in a life time opportunity, but…
“No thank you, I don’t think I will ever pick up a scalpel again in the future, but thank you very much for your kindness.”
Riley then dragged her exhausted body away however William decided to follow behind her, “You clearly have very unique talents, so why is it that you are declining this offer?”
It was clear that he genuinely meant what he was saying and appreciated her talents which moved her very much.
“Is it because of him? Your…husband?” William said the last word rather distressed.
Riley made no reaction to this, “My life does not revolve around my husband you know.”
When she got to the office there was no one else inside. Riley rubbed her forehead and sat down on the chair staring blankly at her hand. Her right hand was trembling slightly, but fortunately when she was stitching back up the patient she was able to pull herself together and finish the task with no hitch.
The sweat on her face just now was due to the tingling pain she felt in her hands but she wouldn’t let him know this.
After taking a few moments for rest she picked up her phone and once she had turned it on her eyebrows immediately creased.
There were over twenty missed calls displayed on the screen and all of them were from Euan!
Her first reaction was disbelief; she then thought she was just imagining things. She even slapped her face a few times.
But it was true.
Apart from the calls she also had gotten a text message.
After three years with no text message from him, she finally had received one.
