A deep frown appeared on Rachel's face upon hearing Jonathan's words. All the while, she thought that he always cared about her relationship with Jack. But now, what he said seemed to be leading to their future divorce.
'Has he known the agreement I signed with Jack?' she thought.
But still, she smiled slightly and said, "Dad, we are good."
"I'm glad to hear that." Jonathan sighed. "If you feel that you are wronged, don't keep it to yourself. Tell me anytime. I know that you have always been a good girl. But most of the time, you don't like to talk. Maybe because when you were a child — "
"Don't worry. I will tell you everything at the right time."
Before Jonathan could finish his words, Rachel interrupted. Although she had already gradually let go of the memories of her childhood, she still felt a little uncomfortable when someone mentioned it.
Jonathan and Rachel chatted for a while before she said goodbye and went back home. On her way, a lot of things ran through her mind, but she still couldn't figure out why Jonathan came to talk to her. She already felt a dull pain in her temples, so she decided to give up in the end.
When she arrived home, Julie was busy preparing dinner. Although the kitchen door was closed, the aroma of the dishes still seeped through the gap, so she smelled it as soon as she entered the house.
Rachel went straight to her room to change her clothes. When she was about to close the door, someone suddenly grabbed her wrist tightly. In an instant, she was pressed against the wall. Jack held the back of her head and snorted.
She frowned as the pungent smell of alcohol penetrated her nostrils. It was too strong that she felt like she could get drunk just by inhaling it.
"Jack, let go of me," she muttered through clenched teeth as she struggled to break free from his grip.
"No way!" Jack snapped as he held her hand more tightly. He lowered his head and suddenly leaned on her shoulder. "Rachel, why are you doing this to me?
What do I need to do for you to forgive me? Why do you have to go and find that man? Why?
After those condemning words, he bit her shoulder hard. It hurt, but Rachel endured the pain and didn't say anything.
She gathered all her strength to push him away and said coldly, "I don't know what you're talking about. You are drunk now. Let's talk about it when you sober up."
"I'm not drunk!" he yelled.
He then raised his head, and his bloodshot eyes stared at her face. He cupped her face with both hands and kissed her savagely. She struggled but to no avail.
Rachel felt not only the pain but also the taste of blood in her lips. She kept pushing him away, but Jack seemed to have gone deranged. He even tore off her clothes, which brought chills on her shoulders.
Pak!
The sound of Rachel's slap resounded through the room. Jack froze as if a bucket of ice-cold water was poured on him. She pulled her clothes to cover her exposed skin and said coldly, "Leave now!"
"Rachel..." There was a trace of pain and regret in Jack's dark eyes when he finally came back to his senses. He tried to hold her hand, but Rachel suddenly shouted hysterically, "Get out!"
When Rachel heard the door closed, she slowly squatted down and finally sat on the floor, her hands covered her belly.
Because of the too much strength she had exerted just now and the mixed emotions that welled up in her, she felt pain in her belly. She bit her lower lip and took a deep breath while waiting for the pain to slowly dissipate.
After a long time, she slowly stood up, changed her torn clothes, and went downstairs.
Julie, who was about to go upstairs to call her for dinner, met Rachel at the foot of the stairs. Her eyes landed on Rachel's slightly bleeding lips. With a trace of worry on her face, she turned to get a piece of tissue and handed it to Rachel. She asked, "Miss Shen, what happened to your lips? Are you okay?"
"I'm okay."
With a slight smile at the corners of her mouth, Rachel subconsciously looked through the window where she could see the yard. Jack's car that was parked there was gone.
Julie followed her gaze and said worriedly, "Mr. Fu drove out. I think it's too dangerous for him to drive because he is too drunk. Miss Shen, you'd better call him back immediately."
"Let him do whatever he likes,"
Rachel replied indifferently and looked away.
She couldn't figure out why Jack had acted strangely again. He even rushed to her and hurt her verbally and physically.
When she sat on the table and stared at the dishes prepared by Julie, she didn't have any appetite at all. She picked up the chopsticks but just played the food on her plate without even putting anything in her mouth. After a while, she put down her chopsticks, stood up, and went back to her room.
She could still smell the alcohol around her room when she entered, so she opened the windows. Sitting on the couch, she recalled what happened here just now. Once again, she felt very confused.
Regarding the matter about her parents' death, she wasn't saying anything to him. But the truth was, she had already forgiven him for hiding it from her. She planned to live a good and happy life with him after their baby was born. But it was always difficult to predict the future.
Scarlett's image sobered her up in an instant.
