My Ex-husband Begs Me Back (Ayan and Camille) novel Chapter 1048

Chapter 1048: Provocation

Preston let out a disdainful snort and looked at Kian, questioning, "Do I need to say thank you?"

Kian remained composed, his expression mild. He calmly replied, "If you really want to say thank you, I can pass on your gratitude to Mr. Simpson and Mrs. Simpson."

Kian's response was sincere, but it sounded like a provocation to Preston.

Preston forcefully slammed his hand on the table. The already unsteady table shook, and his voice was loud. Although the shop had few customers, several employees instinctively turned their attention to the commotion.

Kian felt a bit helpless; he didn't want to be the center of attention. He lowered his voice and asked, "Mr. Walker, what do you mean by this?"

Preston snorted coldly, his expression even more frigid. He looked at Kian with a questioning tone in his voice. "Shouldn't I be asking Ayan what he means? Is it really Ayan's business to meddle in mine and Camille's affairs? We're already divorced, and yet he still thinks he can control Camille?"

Preston's face remained icy, and the glare he fixed on Kian was filled with displeasure. His presence was undeniable. Preston was quite different from Ayan. Ayan's appearance gave off a tremendous sense of oppression, and a single glance from him could make people tremble. However, Preston gave an impression of approachability.

But in this moment, Preston was cold all over when he said these words, and even Kian, who had seen much of the world, was momentarily stunned.

Kian soon caught up, though. He spoke with warmth in his voice, "Mr. Walker, divorce is merely the personal choice of a couple. If it was purely due to relationship issues, Mrs. Simpson would have left Mr. Simpson by now, rather than continuing to maintain an affectionate relationship with him, wouldn't you agree?"

Preston remained silent, his face devoid of any expression.

Kian continued, "Mr. Walker, now that we've said what needed to be said, do you plan to keep this money?"

Kian bluntly raised the question.

This required an answer from Preston: to accept or reject the money.

If he accepted it, it meant he acknowledged Ayan's offer of help. If he refused it, his current predicament would remain unsolved.

Preston remained silent, his face tense like a tightly strung guitar string, ready to snap at any moment.

The two men locked eyes, and Preston hadn't spoken the entire time. Kian finally lowered his voice and said, "Is your silence an indication of acceptance, Mr. Walker? In that case, I'll leave the money here. There are other matters in the company that require my attention. I'll take my leave."

Kian turned to leave but paused after a couple of steps. He looked back at Preston and added, "Oh, Mr. Walker, inside the bag, there's a hundred thousand. Mr. Simpson was concerned that it might not be enough for you, so he asked me to prepare an extra fifty thousand. He said it's to thank you for taking care of Mrs. Simpson all these years. As a friend, he believes you deserve special attention from him as her husband."

After speaking, Kian only glanced at Preston and then walked out of the bubble tea shop without lingering any longer.

Once outside, Kian immediately called Ayan to report the situation.

Kian said, "Mr. Simpson, I left the money because Preston didn't refuse or accept it. It seems like he's in a tight spot and couldn't turn down the money once it was offered."
