Marc left behind a bunch of baffling words. He was gone. 

Recalling his words, Pearl pursed her lips speechl 

Was he trying to repay her kindness? 

Why did it look more like he wanted revenge? 

She thought that the two of them should never interact again in the future. That would be the kindness he could bestow her Every time he appeared, he would ruin her mood.

Pearl shook her head and left for the meeting 

Pearl had borrowed the director’s office for a meeting with the medical team. 

After the meeting, she contacted Noah

“Nonsense. Charlie usually dotes on you so much. It’s so unlike him. How could he bear to treat you like this?” 

Pearl was getting impatient. “If you don’t tell the truth, I’ll call and ask Charlie directly” 

She was about to hang up when Noah quickly stopped her. 

Noah said, “Hey, call him later. There’s no hurry. Let’s get down to business first.” 

Pearl looked at him suspiciously. “You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you? Are you trying to trick me into helping you?” 

Noah was just as particular about his looks as Hubert. He had always been mindful of his appearance and had always cleaned himself up nicely. How could he allow himself to be so sloppy and even show his unkempt side to her? 

It was deliberate. Noah must have something up his sleeve. 

Noah did not refute. 

He grinned. “My sister is still the smartest.” 

Pearl was speechless.

After they were done with proper business, Pearl put down the documents and said, “Now, you can tell me what’s going on. I’ll decide if I should help you plead with Charlie.” 

Noah touched his nose. “Honestly, It’s not a big deal. 

As Noah stammered and shared details, Pearl finally understood the ins and outs of the matter. One of Noah’s ex–boyfriends had begged Noah to save him after falling seriously ill. Considering their past relationship and out of his professional ethics, Noah had operated on him. The man was saved. 

The man wanted to woo Noah back again after recovering. Although he had made a scene at the hospital, Noah remained unaffected. However, the man went to Charlie’s law firm to make a scene after Noah rejected him. 

Charlie was furious. After beating up Noah’s ex–boyfriend, he returned home and taught Noah a lesson.

You all should have cherished each other while together. Now that you’ve broken up with him, he starts appearing again. Doesn’t he know that there’s no going back? He’s just bored and sick in the head! 

She was sharp–tongued. Noah argued back. “No, you’re mistaken. It’s not me. He’s the one who keeps appearing before me “Alright, stop explaining and reflect on yourself.” 

Pearl hung up the video call and calmed down, She called Charlie. “Hey, Charlie 

She wanted to help Noah mend things. It was uneasy for the two of them to get to where they were. It was not worth it for them to fall out over an outsider because of misunderstandings. 

Charlie listened to her quietly and replied steadily, “Yes, I know, I wanted to teach Noah a lesson. I want him to learn to set boundaries and not be overly sympathetic. 

Hearing Charlie say that he would go home to take a look later, Pearl was relieved. She hung up the phone and sent a message. to inform Noah. The latter was overjoyed Pearl was happy for him. 

However, her heart was still gloomy. 

A good ex should disappear and not disturb each other’s lives. They should not keep in contact with each other again. That was what she thought. 

She would love someone to her heart’s content if she were in love. When she did not love a person anymore, she would turn around and leave without hesitation. It was unlike her to linger and drag things out. It was not something she liked either. 

Why was it difficult for Marc to understand such a simple logic?
