Lucas tried to recall. I only remember the mission briefing said the girl was fourteen years old. Her identity and family background were kept confidential, and it was an SSS–level mission. We were all quite shocked at the time, thinking that going to Greenwood might be a one–way trip. It turned out to be quite perilous. Our opponents were tough, and we got scattered. I remember you went deep into enemy territory to rescue the girl, right?” 

Even after leaving the military for so long, those days of intense battles still made his blood boil and he felt a sense of longing.

After a prolonged daze, Lucas snapped him back to reality. Mare blinked, cleared his throat, and said, “What if I told you that the girl from back then was Pearl”

On the other end of the phone, Lucas was almost left jaw–dropped. 

In a high–end restaurant near CBD, accompanied by the soothing rhythm of music, Hubert and Pearl were enjoying their dinner. 

Hubert cut into his steak and glanced at Pearl, who was eating a vegetable salad, feeling a deep sense of guilt. He said. “I’m eating meat while you’re eating greens. Anyone who doesn’t know our relationship might think I’m mistreating you.” 

Pearl took a bite of a lettuce leaf and said, “You would be mistreating me if you made me eat meat. I had a heavy lunch at the Food Delight Diner today. I need some greens to cleanse my palate.” 

Hubert took a sip of red wine. “Did you have lunch with Lucas?” 

“Yes” Pearl nodded. 

Hubert continued cutting his steak. “How did the discussion about the horse ranch go?” 

“It’s almost settled” Pearl said as she took a sip of water. “But Lucas can’t make the final decision. It will ultimately be up to Mr. William. From what I gathered, Lucas hopes to find another partner for the project. 

Hubert frowned. “What do you mean? They don’t trust you, or the Parker Group can’t handle the project!” 

Pearl shook her head and said. “It’s not that. It’s just a strategic consideration. If there could be another company from Machodean joining three–way partnership would make the project more robust.” 

Hubert asked, “Then why did you let Marc walk away like that?” 

Hubert swirled his wine glass. “Leaving personal feelings aside, in terms of capability, Males Group is the best choice in Machodean” 

Pearl pursed her lips, saying with frustration, “But I don’t want to have anything to do with him anymore”
