Chapter 62 

When Pearl Woolery told Mare Males word for word that she no longer loved him, he felt his heart stop beating for a moment 

“So this was what disappointment and sadness felt like,” he thought. 

It wasn’t like he hadn’t been dumped before. 

Back when Clarissa Santos broke up with him, he was angry. He felt that she did not trust him enough and did not believe that he could protect her. 

Because of that, he believed that relationships could not withstand the test of reality and completely closed off his heart. 

When Pearl came into his life, it was the darkest years of his life; his health was at its worst and so was his temper. He did not smile or even say a single nice thing to her. 

Now that she thought about it, if she did not have feelings for him, there was no way she could stay by his side for so long 

“I’m sorry” Mare apologized to her again. “I ruined everything.” 

Pearl smiled faintly but her smile did not reach her eyes. “You didn’t do anything wrong, you just don’t have feelings for me.” 

Mare was about to speak, T. 

“Forget it” Pearl interrupted him. 

She did not want his words of pity. 

“You don’t have to pity me. I didn’t want to tell you these before because I felt that there was no need to bring up the past since we’re already divorced. I’m telling you now because Lucas Parker has a loose tongue. He told you things he shouldn’t have said. Instead of letting others add fuel to the fire and spout nonsense, I felt that it was better for me to tell you clearly myself. This way, you wouldn’t have to keep worrying and obsessing over finding the answer to that question.” 

Marc nodded before responding. Thank you for telling me these.” 

“Now that we’ve talked about this, we can put our private matters aside. Let’s talk business now. 

Pearl looked at Marc’s stunned expression. It was obvious that he had not recovered from their conversation just now. Perhaps he was still immersed in the shock of hearing that she had feelings for him. 

Actually, what was there to be surprised about? 

In the past, she was very open about her feelings for him. Other than him, everyone could tell how much she loved him. But now, she had tasted enough of the bitterness of love 

For the rest of her life, she only wanted to love herself.

Her emotions were calm, and her voice was cold as she said, “Mr. Males, I like to separate work and private matters clearly. In the past, I refused to work with you because we had an ambiguous relationship so I thought that it would be awkward. Now that we’ve made things clear, there’s no need for us to avoid each other anymore so I sincerely invite you to join the project and become my partner.” 

She extended her hand to him. She was polite and sincere, neither servile nor overbearing, as though she was just facing an ordinary business 

partner. 

Silence ensued for a good ten seconds. 

Marc’s eyes were deep as he stared at her quietly for a long time. Then, he slowly reached out and shook her hand. Their hands, which were covered in calluses, overlapped like two unyielding souls intertwining

They agreed to discuss the details of their partnership in the afternoon at Woolery Group. After that, Pearl got out of the car. 

Marc watched Pearl’s diminishing silhouette as she left. He wanted to stop her and apologize to her again, but he swallowed his words. Perhaps what she needed was never his apology.
