Estie saw that Daddy did not respond, so she pushed her small plate in front of him again, her face full of urgency.
Seeing the little girl’s gestures, Byron came back to his senses and lifted his fork to take green vegetables for her.
Estie lowered her head and ate with gusto. Her appetite was greater than before.
When the little one had finished her meal, she wiped her mouth and was prepared to go upstairs. Byron quickly called out to her.
“Estie, darling.”
Estie stopped obediently and looked back at his father in confusion.
Byron’s eyes met the little one’s gaze in a complicated way, but he could not help it. “Did you go to Auntie Rosalie’s house today?”
As soon as he said that, the little girl pursed her mouth and lowered her eyes silently, she was not prepared to tell him the truth.
Byron got up and walked to her side. He hugged the little one and sat down on the sofa. “I called Miss
Leigh Ann, and Miss Leigh Ann told me.”
Estie frowned unhappily. “I hate Missi Ann!”
Miss Leigh Ann had promised her that she would not tell Daddy about it!
Byron soothed the little one and gently corrected her. “Darling, Miss Leigh Ann did the right thing. You’re my daughter, so I need to know your movements in school. Mrs. Zora also said that you came back by yourself. So yes, I was very worried. I could only ask Miss Leigh Ann. She was also shocked to know you came back alone.”
Hearing this, the little girl’s guilty conscience was gradually revealed on her face, she whispered, “Me, not alone.”
Byron had expected this answer.
He soothingly rubbed the little girl’s head. “I know. Aunt Rosalie was the one who sent you back. I helped explain it to Miss Leigh Ann.”
Estie’s expression became lighter.
“Why couldn’t you tell me that you went to Auntie Rosalie’s house?” Byron looked at the little one beside him. The man had an answer in his heart, but he did not want to admit it.
Estie just shook her head silently.
