Chapter 1226 Standing Up For Herself
Striding quickly to Yuri, she scolded in a low voice, “Why are you here? Is this a place you can enter? As a deserted wife whose husband is in jail. Do you have no shame?”
Yuri glanced at Samantha, who was dressed in a dark red evening gown. She said without any expression, “I have something to discuss with my father. It's only on occasions like this that I get to see him.”
She had tried numerous times to seek help from the President's office, but the President never allowed her entry.
She waved the invitation in her hand. “I came in with an invitation, you know.”
Samantha frowned, looking at her with a mix of skepticism and belief. “How did you get an invitation?”
“What? Can't I have one too?”
Yuri couldn't be bothered to deal with her anymore.
Samantha looked Yuri up and down, feeling that she seemed to have changed a lot. The old Yuri would never have dared to be so arrogant or confident.
It was even more unlikely for her to act so coldly and speak so bluntly.
It seemed like her usual agreeable demeanor was gone.
Samantha frowned as she observed Yuri. Yuri was dressed in a white cinched waist dress, showcasing her long, slender legs. Her skin was fair, akin to a peeled egg, and her long hair was elegantly tied up in a princess bun.
Her expression was aloof, her gaze icy, and there was an unexplainable aura about her.
This... Is this still Yuri?
It was as if she had become an entirely different person.
In the past, Yuri was such a pushover in her eyes. Samantha could bully and deceive her to her heart's desire. After getting married, Yuri's life became even more miserable.
It was simply unbearable to watch. The Guzman family treated her poorly, especially after she gave birth to another daughter. In a place like Zaewora, giving birth to a daughter in a large family was considered a financial burden.
It was easy to imagine how unwelcome she was in the Guzman family. Moreover, it was said that Yosef would often resort to hitting and scolding her.
Since the President didn't like her, he had turned a blind eye to her sufferings.
How could a woman like this suddenly change so drastically?
Is she just pretending? Pretending to be unafraid on purpose? She must be putting on an act. The President has never brought her to such grand events before, nor has she ever attended one. There is no way she can be so composed. She's definitely pretending. I'm absolutely sure of it.
Samantha was convinced that Yuri was just putting on a brave face, so her eyes filled with even more disdain. “I suggest you leave immediately to avoid upsetting your father when he sees you. A woman like you, who brings bad luck, has no place at such an important event.”
She continued with a cold laugh. “Who knows where you got that invitation from? Did you steal it, perhaps? Or did you get it by sleeping with some random man?”
If this were the past, Yuri might have been knocked down by such verbal abuse, becoming timid.
However, ever since she spent some time living and learning at the Athena Mother and Child Protection Association, she was no longer the timid and fearful Yuri she used to be.
She also wanted to become strong and become like Ashlyn.
She could no longer afford to be as weak as before, to be trampled upon by others. She had to protect her daughter, and she had to protect fellow women who, like her, were being persecuted.
She would never show weakness easily again. Hence, she lowered her eyes and smiled, a hint of contempt in her voice. “Mrs. President, the second wife of the President, unlike some, I don't rely on sleeping with men to climb the social ladder or to become the so-called 'lady' in the public eye. I rightfully earned this invitation myself.”
Her words were a blatant insult to Samantha, who turned pale upon hearing them.
She was the President's second wife, not his original spouse. It was a fact known to all.
However, no one had ever burst the bubble in her face, and she had always taken pride in being the First Lady.
But now, Yuri actually dared to call her the second wife in front of the crowd.
This was nothing less than a blatant slap in her face!
Samantha took a deep breath, continuously comforting herself. “There are many people here. Many people. I need to maintain my dignity, I can't stoop to this scoundrel's level.”
