In the blink of an eye, Joe disappeared from view. Vera stood frozen in place. Her vibrant, striking face paled even more under the streetlights and the moonlight. 

She couldn’t believe Joe had just driven away like that. He left her standing there, just like that. 

It felt like all her pride was crushed at that moment as if it no longer mattered. 

Her dignity and logic screamed at her that Joe must have assumed she wanted to stay with her old classmates, which was why he didn’t ask if she needed a ride back to the hotel. 

Of course, he wasn’t rushing off to see Skylar. He didn’t care about Skylar that much. 

But still, Joe shouldn’t have left her alone like this. Even if sending the picture to Skylar was wrong, he shouldn’t have treated her like that. 

Her anger boiled over. Without thinking, Vera pulled out her phone and sent Skylar a message on 

WhatsApp. 

“I never imagined you’d be such a petty, small–minded person. I sent you that picture because it was between us. Joe has nothing to do with it. This just proves you’ve got bad intentions. I know you used shady tactics to get with Joe, and one day he’ll see your true colors. Skylar, you’d better watch yourself.” 

Skylar had fallen asleep almost immediately after getting into bed. With her phone turned off, she received no calls or message notifications. 

On his way back to the hotel, Joe called Skylar several times, but every call went straight to voicemail. His face remained stormy as he arrived at the hotel. When he opened the door of the room, the darkness, inside caught him off guard. He raised an eyebrow, surprised. 

He turned on the flashlight on his phone and walked further into the room. The sound of Skylar’s steady breathing reached him from the bed. 

On the drive back, Joe had already planned how to calm Skylar’s jealousy and explain the whole situation about tonight’s reunion. He hadn’t expected her to fall asleep. Joe stared at Skylar’s face, her long lashes casting shadows under the dim light. There was no trace of the jealousy in her expression. 

It was as if the picture she sent and her accusatory messages didn’t even matter. Joe chuckled, shaking his head. She really was carefree. 

Skylar slept peacefully through the night. 

When she woke up the following day and saw Joe lying beside her, she was a bit surprised. She hadn’t noticed when he came back last night. She had slept too deeply. 

Carefully getting out of bed, she grabbed her phone and went to the bathroom.
