Vivian had always loved reading picture books. After school, she would finish dinner and immediately curl up with a new story.
Whenever she encountered a word she didn't recognize, she would bring it to Joe or Skylar for help.
Before long, she had learned a surprising number of words.
"Let me see that," Joe said, setting aside his earlier sharp tone while discussing Carmen and Sigmund. But the moment his eyes landed on Vivian, his expression softened.
Skylar couldn't help but cherish moments like these. She loved the cozy dynamic of their little family. "How about we read it together?" she suggested.
"Yes, please!" Vivian's enthusiasm was infectious.
…
Wendy hadn't expected Zera to come looking for her again. This time, Zera was right outside her door.
Wendy frowned as she opened the door. "How did you even get up here?"
Zera smirked, her confidence unshaken. "I own a unit in this complex. I just asked the property manager for access."
Her eyes sparkled with barely concealed pride as she mentioned her ownership.
Wendy felt a heavy weight settle in her chest. If Zera lived here, it would likely have been arranged by Aiken. That thought sent a sharp pang through her heart.
She knew Aiken owned several units in this development, gifts from the developer when the project launched. The apartment she lived in now was one of them—a gift from Aiken.
She had considered it her home for years, completely forgetting who it had originally belonged to. But now, the realization hit her hard, leaving her breathless, like someone had cut off her air supply.
Zera raised her chin slightly, her voice tinged with satisfaction. "When I came to you last time, you obviously didn't take my words seriously.
Zera couldn't fathom it. Surely, Wendy would seize this opportunity to demand something or find a way to hold on.
Aiken wouldn't have suddenly grown distant with her if that were true. Until now, their relationship had been progressing smoothly.
Wendy's expression didn't waver. "Aiken and I will part ways amicably. I wish you both the best." Her tone was cold, her words final. As soon as she finished, Wendy turned and reached for her door.
"You…" Zera was left stunned.
Her accusations hit no mark. Wendy neither rose to defend herself nor argued. Instead, she had gone so far as to offer her blessings to Zera and Aiken.
This wasn't normal.
Yet Wendy's indifference seemed genuine, as though she truly didn't care about Aiken being with Zera. Without sparing another glance, Wendy stepped inside and shut the door firmly behind her, leaving Zera standing outside in frustration.

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
