A chill seemed to seep through the talisman, passing along the paper to Skylar's palm, causing a sudden coldness.
Hubert was taken aback. "Is the influence really this powerful? But I feel so much calmer now. Thank you, Mrs. Martin."
In the past couple of days, he had been overwhelmed by a deep, indescribable sense of heaviness and helplessness. But now, he felt a lightness inside, as though a weight had been lifted.
Suddenly, an idea struck him. He quickly stood up. "I won't take up any more of your time, Mrs. Martin. I need to go find my wife and explain things to her properly."
The more he reflected, the clearer it became. He couldn't lose Thora. He loved her.
But these past few years, because their material lives had improved, he had become accustomed to neglecting the people close to him, taking their relationships for granted.
He had assumed Thora would never leave him and that he didn't need to cherish her as he did in the past. Only now did he realize the profound regret that followed after causing someone pain.
As Hubert hurried out, Skylar couldn't help but smile slightly. She hoped that both of them would calm down and truly think about their future.
Just as she was about to place the vial-shaped emerald pendant back in her bag, she noticed a familiar figure walking past the window. If she wasn't mistaken, it was Alina.
But the man beside her wasn't Harvey. From what Skylar had seen on Harvey's Instagram posts recently, their relationship seemed solid. Harvey had even mentioned marrying Alina within the year, and Skylar had gotten to know more about Alina's background.
Alina came from a humble background. Her parents were both professors, but they were not based in Jipsburg. They worked at the Polytechnic College in Fachington; she was their only daughter.

More chapters please...
Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
