Vivian immediately shut her eyes, but the dust still got in. Tears streamed down her face as she tried to adjust.
Then, through the moonlight, she saw several horses come to a stop in front of the government office.
A few figures dismounted from the horses. And among them—one silhouette was unmistakably familiar.
She shot up to her feet. Without hesitation, she ran toward them, her voice ringing through the night—"Manfred! Manfred! Manfred!"
Her voice was hoarse, almost breaking, terrified that he couldn't hear her.
Even the guards at the gate turned their heads.
Against the deathly silence of the night, her desperate shouts cut through like a knife.
Manfred was just about to step over the threshold—but he froze. His back went rigid.
After a whole night of hallucinations, he could no longer tell—was this real? Or another illusion?
"Who dares to call Mr. Atkinson by name?! Such audacity!" A guard scowled.
Kemp was also stunned for a moment before snapping back to his senses. "Some troublemaker. You—go stop her."
"Yes, sir!" Several guards immediately moved forward.
Manfred, still tense, slowly turned around. His gaze landed on Vivian, who was struggling against the guards.
Meanwhile, Vivian looked at the soldiers blocking her way, speechless. But what could she do?
With no other choice, she kept shouting—"Manfred! Manfred!"
The guards shielded him from view, and she had no idea if he had stopped or not.
"Again? What makes you think a beggar like you can meet Mr. Atkinson? Get lost before we make you!" One of the guards sneered, his face dark with hostility.
Kemp blinked. "Why does that voice sound familiar?"
Just then, a gust of wind swept past.

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
