Aiken’s tone was noticeably gentle and respectful when he spoke to Skylar, as if she held great significance in his eyes. This stark contrast darkened Vera’s

“Maybe another time. I have plans with friends,” Skylar replied. 

Aiken nodded thoughtfully, a smile on his face. “Alright, next time.” 

He then turned to Vera. “Do you know Ms. Sullivan?” 

Vera’s smile held a hint of sarcasm. “We just met. The car she’s driving now is one I gave to Joe. So I was curious and came over to talk to her. It seems like you know her quite well?”
