Chapter 984
Aiken stood by the door, listening to the faint sounds coming from inside the room. He couldn’t hear what Skylar and Simona were talking about, but he could sense that Simona’s mood was easing.
They were having a calm conversation, and his tense expression gradually softened.
It had been a long time since he had trusted someone this much. He had thought that no one in his life could make him feel this way. Unexpectedly, he had met Skylar.
With Simona now with Skylar, he felt an immense sense of relief.
He pulled out a cigarette from his pocket and was about to light it when he hesitated. Instead, he took the cigarette pack and went upstairs to the balcony.
Under the evening breeze, he lit the cigarette.
A thought crossed his mind as he reflected on the fact that Skylar had come alone while Joe was absent. There might be issues in Joe and Skylar’s relationship.
The last time something happened to Skylar, Joe was extremely anxious. It had seemed like he really cared about her, but now, that didn’t seem to be the case.
While he was caught up in his thoughts, his phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, he raised an eyebrow but maintained his composure. He answered, “Mr. Martin.”
“Is Skylar there with you?” Joe asked directly.
Aiken paused for a moment, looking down at the lighter in his hand. “Yes, my sister had some issues, so I asked Ms. Sullivan to come over to help.”
“Send me the address. I’ll come and get her,” Joe said.
Aiken agreed. After that, they ended the call without further conversation.
There was an intangible, unspoken tension between them. A subtle emotional undercurrent that only the two of them could sense. It was as if they were silently competing in the shadows.
After ending the call, Aiken glanced at the night sky. It was already midnight, and Joe was still coming to pick up Skylar.
It was clear that Joe cared about Skylar. But he wondered if Joe could truly discern who mattered to him
while he was so conflicted.
He stubbed out the half–smoked cigarette and headed downstairs. At the door, he could still hear the voices of Skylar and Simona.
Simona’s voice sounded noticeably lighter than before, suggesting that the earlier scene had not affected
her much. There was even an occasional laugh.
Skylar’s laughter was soft and gentle, yet she was a woman of strong character and ambition. Each encounter with her seemed to make Aiken feel inadequate and self–critical.
Despite this, he couldn’t help but entertain some less noble thoughts.
As Aiken was lost in thought, Skylar suddenly opened the door and stepped out. He was about to speak, but Skylar shook her head and motioned for him to hold off.
They went downstairs and sat on the couch. Only then did Skylar speak. “Simona is tired and should be asleep now. She wants to see me tomorrow, and I’ve promised her that.
“Are there any extra rooms here? If not, I’ll come over early tomorrow.”
Simona was still emotionally unstable, and Skylar wasn’t comfortable leaving her alone. Aiken felt a surge of relief at Skylar’s decision to stay, but he was reminded of Joe’s earlier call.
He suppressed his excitement and said, “Mr. Martin just called me. He said he’s on his way to pick you up

The readers' comments on the novel: My Flash Romance With the Richest Mogul
Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
