Willow had to break into a little trot in order to keep up with him.
In the car, Jasper wore a cold expression upon his handsome face, the whole time. Willow sat primly, and kept quiet. It was hard to imagine what she’d done to tick him off, this time. Ever since they emerged from the hospital, he’d been moody and morose, neither saying a word nor looking her way even once.
She was in no hurry to make things worse, and so she didn’t say anything either.
The neon lights of the city rolled off the luxurious black exterior of the Rolls-Royce, at once scintillating yet sinister.
The car pulled into the parking lot of a fine-dining restaurant. Jasper got out here, and so Willow followed suit.
She was taken aback when she saw the name of the restaurant they had arrived at. What an odd coincidence! It was the very same place that Xavier had just brought her to, earlier! Did both men really like this restaurant so much?
Lost in her own thoughts, she nearly collided into the dark, looming figure ahead of her. Fortunately, she was able to catch herself just in time, sparing herself some terrible agony. After all, her forehead was already sporting a prominent injury there.
Jasper gave her an unfathomable look, and then caught hold of her hand in his own massive one. “Watch where you’re going,” he cautioned her, his voice haughty and urbane.
Willow felt this was unfair, since he was the one who’d stopped abruptly in front of her.
Leading her by the hand, he strode into the restaurant.
The staff at the door greeted them politely. They all recognized Jasper Hughes. He was a big-name celebrity, and a regular patron here. Whenever he showed up, everyone gave their one hundred percent, striving to provide him with absolutely perfect service. Even the slightest mistake was unacceptable.
However, this was the first time he’d ever shown up with a female partner. Here he was now, holding hands with her… the waiters couldn’t help staring curiously.
