Chapter 1448 A Birthday Gift

Just after participating in a brand event, Jerry was removing his makeup in the dressing room when the phone on the table suddenly lit up.

The call came from an unfamiliar number.

Jerry lowered his gaze to his phone, only picking it up to answer after a few seconds. From the other end of the call, a child's voice stuttered out, “Uncle Jerry.”

Jerry immediately rose from his chair, “Sasha, why are you crying?”

“Mary took me out to play, but now I can't find her. I'm really scared of being all alone.” Sasha sniffled. “I don't remember Aunt Charlotte's number, but I remember yours, Uncle Jerry. Uncle Jerry, can you come pick me up?”

Jerry couldn't care less if this was a trap set by Charlotte to appease him. Upon learning that the little one was alone in the mall, he hurriedly grabbed his phone and rushed out.

Just then, Joash was just coming in with a coffee, “Jerry, where are you going?”

Before he could finish his sentence, Jerry reached into Joash's down jacket pocket, pulled out the car keys, and briskly walked past him, heading out.

Around ten minutes later, Jerry arrived at the mall.

The KFC restaurant was quite crowded. Jerry adjusted the mask on his face, pushed the door open, and immediately spotted Sasha sitting by the window. Her cheeks were rosy, and her hair was tied into two cute little buns. She looked adorable.

At the same time, Sasha also spotted Jerry. She leaped off the chair and rushed toward him. Jerry bent down to pick up the little one.

Sasha said, “Uncle Jerry, you came so quickly.”

After scanning the store and not spotting Charlotte, Jerry's gaze fell back on Sasha. “How did you get separated from Mary? Did she intentionally let go of your hand?”

Feeling the intense gaze from Jerry's dark eyes, Sasha soon became uneasy.

She said softly, “Uncle Jerry, I tricked you. It was me who asked Mary to leave. I haven't seen you for so long. I missed you a lot.”

As she spoke, Sasha leaned in and gave the man a kiss.

Jerry guessed that after the little one was scolded by Charlotte for sneaking out of the kindergarten last time, she must have been scolded again by her mother when she got home. Therefore, she no longer dared to wander off on her own.

Jerry carried her as they walked toward the ordering area, “Are you hungry? What would you like to eat?”

It was currently noon and the shop was crowded. Fearing recognition, Jerry bought two sets of takeaways and led Sasha to the car.

He handed the hamburger to the little one, who bowed her head and took a big bite.

Seeing Sasha eating happily, her little legs swinging back and forth, Jerry chuckled. He reached out to brush off the food crumbs on her down jacket. “Your aunt eats just like this too.”

“What do you mean?” Sasha curiously looked at Jerry and asked, “Uncle Jerry, do you miss my aunt?”

Jerry didn't respond to that; he simply asked, “Where do you want to go after we finish eating?”

“Don't you need to work, Uncle Jerry?”

“All the work is done.” Jerry gently rubbed her cheek. “If you don't want me to accompany you, shall I take you to your aunt's workplace?”

Sasha could tell that Jerry seemed to still be angry with Charlotte. If he were to take her to her aunt's workplace, he would surely hand her over to someone else and not meet her aunt.

She needed to figure out a way to end her uncle-in-law's silent treatment toward her aunt.

Sasha's mind was racing. Then, she pointed her little hand out the window and asked, “There's an amusement park in the mall. Can you take me there, Uncle Jerry?”

“All right.”

After finishing their meal and heading to the amusement park in the mall, Sasha took advantage of Jerry's distraction to borrow someone else's phone and call her aunt.

However, it seemed that her aunt was busy, for she did not answer her phone.

Sasha was tired after playing in the amusement park until after three o'clock, so she asked Jerry to take her to her aunt's condominium.

After entering the condominium, Sasha was terrified that Jerry would run away. Without even having the time to change into house slippers, she dragged Jerry all the way to the bedroom, then pulled out a rectangular box from under the desk.

“Uncle Jerry, this is the birthday gift Aunt Charlotte wants to give you.”

Jerry opened the box and took out the painting, discovering it to be La Belle Noiseuse by Edouard Frenhofer.
