Chapter 235
The man’s sudden display of respect heightened Esther’s alertness. The sight of the bloody severed hand added to the gravity of the situation.
“I’ll throw this hand into the sea to feed the sharks,” the man declared before heading to the deck and disposing of the hand in the boundless sea.
Esther heard the sound of the waves, and her temples throbbed. These ruthless individuals were capable of such brutality without hesitation. If they desired her and Felix’s lives, it would be an effortless decision for them.
Even before the man approached with the severed hand, Esther positioned herself to shield Felix from the view. Witnessing such a scene would be a nightmare for any adult, let alone a child like Felix.
The man glanced at the tape on Felix’s mouth and the plastic zip tie on his wrist before handing Esther a pair of scissors.
“Mrs. Warner, please come with me, along with Young Mr. Warner.”
With the boss’ orders, the leader treated Esther differently, acknowledging her importance.
Esther used the scissors to cut the zip tie and remove the yellow adhesive tape from Felix’s mouth. The tape’s strong adhesion had caused swelling and redness around Felix’s small mouth, prompting tears to well up in Esther’s eyes out of concern.
“It doesn’t hurt, Mommy,” Felix softly reassured Esther, blinking to prevent the tears from falling.
The man led Esther and Felix to the bedroom on the yacht.
“Mrs. Warner, please rest here with your son.”
The man thoughtfully provided them water, food, ointment, and ice packs.
Esther and Felix were alone in the bedroom. Esther held Felix’s small face and carefully examined his body.
Fortunately, perhaps due to Felix’s status as a child, the captors had not been excessively tight with the zip ties, and there were no wounds on his wrists or ankles.
Reluctant to use unfamiliar medication, Esther used a towel and some ice cubes to reduce the swelling on Felix’s reddened lips.
“Felix, are you hungry?”
Neither Esther nor Felix had eaten or drunk anything since their last meal in the morning.
Felix nodded faintly. “But can we eat these things, Mommy?”
Esther hesitated, torn between the options of eating or not.
Would they have the strength to escape if they chose not to eat?
If they did eat, what if there was something in the food or drink that could harm them?
Then let’s not eat.”
Esther held the trembling Felix in her arms. Since the kidnapping began, Felix had displayed remarkable bravery.
