Chapter 548
The man dressed in black wore a stern expression, hinting at his readiness to take drastic action if Esther declined to cooperate.
Esther gathered her courage, took a deep breath, and said, “I’ll go with you.”
Concerned for Esther’s safety, Kevin offered to escort her protectively. “Esther, I’ll come with you.”
Chadwick’s past actions had left Esther deeply afraid. She knew that if Bradley hadn’t arrived in time, she might not have escaped Chadwick’s grasp. Morally and ethically, she couldn’t just stand by.
Chadwick was accustomed to luxury, so had an RV. His unsettling gaze sent shivers down her spine, and she felt an overwhelming urge to escape.
“Please, Ms. Quill, take a seat.”
Esther stood hesitating at the vehicle’s entrance, unsure about boarding.
Chadwick poured a cup of tea and slid it across the table to her. “Ms. Quill, this tea isn’t spiked.”
He poured himself a cup as well.
Esther continued to hesitate outside the vehicle while Chadwick glanced at Kevin, who stood behind her. Mr. Slade, please wait outside for five minutes. I need to discuss important matters with Ms. Quill.”
Esther finally relented.
“We’ll discuss Bradley.”
At the mention of Bradley’s name, Esther instinctively entered the vehicle and sat across from Chadwick.
“What do you want to talk about?” she asked.
Kevin attempted to enter the vehicle but was blocked by the man in black. “Step aside.”
The man in black added, “Dr. Slade, Mr. Pendleton wishes to speak with Ms. Quill.”
Inside the vehicle.
Chadwick raised the hand Bradley had injured and asked leisurely, “Esther, how long do you think he’ll be in jail for smashing my hand like this?”
Esther frowned and replied mockingly, “Mr. Pendleton, we don’t have the kind of relationship where we can sit together and have tea. What do you want to say?”
“Because of you, the Quills are now attacking the Pendletons,” Chadwick calmly explained to Esther. “The Pendletons and the Quills fighting each other will allow others to reap the benefits.”
Esther was unaware the two families were fighting because of her. She could not help but worry about the Quills’ situation.
