Chapter 583
Jasper positioned himself in front of Esther, shielding her from Chadwick’s hostile and mocking gaze. Mr. Pendleton, I don’t understand your history with Bradley, but putting a woman in such a difficult position is quite rude.”
Chadwick laughed upon hearing Jasper’s words. “Who are you?”
Given Chadwick’s high status, it was unlikely he knew Jasper.
Jasper regained his composure and glanced at the anxious Esther. “I’m Jasper Searle, Esther’s friend.”
Chadwick chuckled. “You’re Esther’s admirer!”
Esther stepped forward, facing Chadwick’s mocking stare. “Mr. Pendleton, Jasper is my best friend. You can’t say that about him.”
Chadwick sneered. “Are you naive? Nowadays, there’s no such thing as a purely platonic friendship
between a man and a woman. Jasper gave up everything for you because he likes you! Do you think he has nothing better to do?”
“Mr. Pendleton, Esther and I are just friends,” Jasper insisted. “I did confess my feelings once, but she turned me down. We agreed to remain friends. You don’t need to interfere. Esther, let’s go.”
While defending Esther, Jasper’s eyes showed sympathy. He couldn’t stand to see Chadwick using Bradley’s life to threaten her.
He escorted Esther back to the car, started the engine, and prepared to drive away.
“Mr. Pendleton, please move your car.”
Chadwick and Jasper faced off in silence.
Chadwick sighed and looked at Esther in the passenger seat. He spoke calmly. “Esther, I’ll be waiting for you here.”
With that, he moved his car to clear the way.
Jasper drove away.
Esther glanced at Chadwick’s car in the rearview mirror, a sense of unease creeping over her.
“Esther, don’t let Mr. Pendleton’s words bother you,” Jasper said. “We can find another suitable liver donor. We’re not relying solely on Mandy’s liver.”
However, Esther’s uneasiness grew as she thought of Bradley in the hospital. Could they really find another suitable liver for him?
Jasper and Esther arrived at the hospital. Kevin could tell from their return Esther hadn’t persuaded Mandy to donate her liver.
“Esther, Bradley’s condition has temporarily stabilized. Don’t worry too much. I’ve already initiated a search for another suitable liver.”
