Chapter 627
Bradley found Felix’s cheeky comment amusing.
“So, who have you chosen to replace me as your dad?” he coldly asked.
“I think Uncle Jasper would be a good choice!”
Bradley ignored his unhealed injuries, got up, and pulled Felix toward him. He then lightly spanked his buttocks, demanding, “Say that again!”
As stubborn as ever, Felix glared back and retorted, “If you even think about marrying Aunt Mandy, I want Uncle Jasper to be my Daddy.”
Bradley firmly grasped Felix’s face, forcing the boy to meet his gaze. “Listen here, you little rascal. Your old man isn’t gone yet, you know?”
Felix bargained, “I don’t care. Unless you don’t marry her!”
“Stay out of grown-up matters!”
Felix huffed and almost mumbled, “Fine, marry Aunt Mandy if you want. But then Uncle Jasper will be my new Daddy.”
Bradley clenched his teeth and warned sternly, “How dare you say that?”
“I dare! I absolutely dare!” Felix’s face twisted into a pitiful expression as if he could burst into tears any moment. “Once you marry her, you’ll have your own kids. And if my stepmother bullies me, you’ll probably say it’s my fault!”
Chuckling with a hint of frustration, Bradley asked,, “What kind of nonsense have you been reading?”
“My friend told me his Daddy did the same thing! And the storybooks say that when you get a stepmom, you’ll get a stepdad too!”
Feeling like he was winning the argument, Felix beamed with confidence.
Bradley, however, felt his temples pulsate. “Do those books also mention that a stepdad might treat you-”
Felix interrupted, “No, they say it’s better to have a poor but honest Mommy than a wealthy, deceitful Daddy.”
Bradley stared deeply into Felix’s eyes and sighed. He playfully flicked his son’s nose and said, “You little rascal, aren’t you going to ask how I’m feeling after the surgery?”
“Daddy, please don’t marry Aunt Mandy.” Sensing his father’s mood, Felix changed tactics.
“That will depend on your behavior,” Bradley said.
Eager to please, Felix pulled an orange from his bag, peeled it carefully, and began feeding Bradley. “Daddy, try this orange. It’s really sweet!”
In one swift motion, Bradley pulled Felix into his arms and asked, “Who brought you here to the hospital?”
“Uncle Jasper!” Felix answered and smiled charmingly. “Daddy, if you’re not careful, Mommy
will get swept away by some other guy!”
Bradley grimaced and hissed through clenched teeth. “She wouldn’t dare!”
The marriage alliance between the Pendleton and Quill families caused a stir in Capitus. While the Pendletons went all out with extravagant preparations, the Quills chose to keep a low profile.
The tension that had once shrouded the city seemed to have disappeared, bringing an unusual calm.
