My Love Until the Last Goodbye (Mary and Maximus) novel Chapter 1006

As Valerie, Marcus, Serenity, and Laura traveled to the church, they all smiled, but each was lost in their own thoughts.

Marcus glanced at the rearview mirror and saw his little girl—his Serene—the same one who used to take out her mother’s wedding dress and put it on, saying it was beautiful…

A lump formed in his throat. He couldn’t wrap his head around how that six- or seven-year-old girl was now a grown woman.

Laura, as soon as she got into the car, carefully adjusted Serenity’s dress, making sure the veil and train were perfect. As the car moved along the road, she stared out the window, lost in memories of how deeply in love she had been—or maybe still was—with her daughter’s father.

She couldn’t help but wonder how things would have been if Adrian had reacted differently to her pregnancy. He would probably be the one waiting for her at the church, holding little Adele in his arms. They would have had a dream wedding, and their life would have been perfect.

But fate had different plans for her. One thing was certain—over the past year, she had been forced to grow up.

She couldn’t help but envy her sister, though not out of malice. A part of her wished she could have been in her place, even just once.

The only thing Laura knew for sure was that she had to work hard, improve, and fight—for herself and for little Adele.

As she had said before, her daughter was and always would be her priority. The dreams of solitude, the youthful fantasies, were all in the past. Now, she had to put in more effort than anyone else.

She felt a deep sense of responsibility—not just for her daughter, but for her siblings and her father. That thought brought back the conversation she had with Lucius and their father…

[One day earlier]

Like every night, the Evanses gathered around the table, sharing laughter and jokes as they tried to have a peaceful dinner.

But tonight’s dinner was a little different. Three new seats had been added: one for Lucius, one for Amanda, and one for Diana.

“Guys! Guys! Put the tablets away. We’re going to eat properly,” Laura said from the head of the table.

“Listen to your sister!” came Magnus’s deep voice.

“Yes, Grandpa!” Maurice said, walking over and taking his hand. “Grandpa, sit next to me. Hey… after dinner, will you tell me another one of your stories?”

Despite not knowing Magnus for long, Maurice had quickly grown attached to him. There was something about the man’s elegance and mannerisms that fascinated the boy.
