Peter then turned to the woman beside him, intertwining his fingers with hers. She smiled at him, and that smile filled him with warmth.
The boy who had once dreamed of exploring the world, climbing mountains, and living grand adventures no longer needed any of that. Today, all he needed was the woman he woke up beside every morning, his beautiful daughters, and his mother.
Even if, at first, he hadn’t remembered Celeste, that no longer mattered. He was creating new memories—memories in which that messy-haired woman was always by his side.
He felt like the luckiest man in the world. In the life he had awakened to, he was no longer alone. He no longer lived in solitude. He had a wonderful wife, was the father of three amazing children, a future grandfather to two, and, without expecting it or even seeking it, he had his mother beside him.
He had a good relationship with Maximus and Magnus—he had practically become a father figure to him as well.
In silence, he knew that his past—filled with the lives he had taken, the pain and loss that had once consumed him—was behind him now. The uncertainty and loneliness that had once plagued him were gone. Today, the most important thing in his life was his family.
In this new world he had woken up in, life had given him a second chance—to be happy, to have his brother close, to have his mother, and to share a father with his brother. A father who, though not bound by blood, had taken them both in as his own.
He didn’t need to be a millionaire to be happy—though he was one. For him, the greatest treasure was, and always would be, his wife, his daughters, his son and daughter-in-law, his grandchildren, his brother, his nieces and nephews, his mother, and his father. In short, his entire new family.
The priest’s words, as he joined their daughter’s life to the man she loved, also echoed in Marcus and Valerie’s hearts.
They both knew the journey hadn’t been easy. In fact, their year in Valentia had been anything but easy. But despite the challenges, many things had fallen into place, and other chapters had finally been closed.
