“And?” Peter asked, giving his full attention to his son.
“And I think it’s time to go our separate ways. Please don’t take it the wrong way, but I think it’s time we give ourselves that opportunity.”
“Why are you nervous?” Peter asked calmly.
“Well… It’s just that we’re a close family. But now you have Celeste, the girls, and Grandma. And I have Serenity, Ethan, and my future baby. This house is huge, but I think we need to start our own lives.”
Peter adjusted his glasses and smiled.
“You really think I’d be upset about you wanting to spread your wings?” he asked, amused.
“Well, no, but… We’ve been through so much…”
“Son,” Peter said as he stood up and walked over to him. “Let’s clear something up. I know my ‘other self’ might seem intimidating. It’s still hard for me to accept that I have a 24-year-old son. When I woke up, I basically thought I was that age myself.
“Nothing makes me happier than seeing you build your own life. Honestly, nothing brings me more joy than knowing a mini version of me turned out to be a much better person than I was at your age.
“I have to admit—I’m proud of you, son. You’re a great father. You’ve built your own fortune. You’re a good man. You know how to work hard. You’re responsible. And most importantly, you enjoy life.
“There’s still so much for you to see and do. And you can do it. I’d never be upset about where you decide to live. If you want to stay in this house, go ahead. If you want to move to the Emirates, or anywhere else, I’ll be at peace with it.
“In fact, I’ll let you in on a little secret—I’m moving out too. It’s time for me to be where I truly belong.” Peter smiled.
“Where are you going?” Alden asked, surprised.
“To my home.”
“Isn’t this your home?” Alden asked curiously.
“No. Theodore bought this house, and we’re leaving it to Adam. That’s why he hasn’t bought him an apartment. I’m going to my home—to where Celeste wants to be.”
“And where’s that?” Alden asked, intrigued.
“Willowcombe.”
“That’s where Celeste lived when she left Slovenia, right?”
“Yes. That’s her home. And my home is wherever she wants to be. I already bought several properties there. It’s supposed to be a surprise, but I’ve expanded the house, planted flowers—she likes those things—and even built a studio so she can start painting again.” Peter’s smile widened.
“Dad… Does she know?”
“Not entirely. She knows we’re expanding for the girls. And for my own safety—because, you do realize those little creatures are going to grow up, right?”
“And?” Alden asked, confused.
