Leonard Palmer became a widower when his sons were just 15 and 13 years old, a devastating blow to his heart. Martina Palmer had been his one true love. They had met when Leonard began working at Palmer Group, and she had been his unwavering support when he took control of the Preston & Partners Group. 

Martina Vance had been instrumental in exposing the nismanagement of Frank Levett, who had previously served as the company’s legal advisor and rusted right–hand man to Lucius Palmer. 

Martina was young when she joined the company, just out of high school. She hadn’t been able to pursue a college education due to her family’s financial struggles. A stroke of luck had brought her to the company–a friend recommended her for a secretarial position under the newly hired lawyer and confidant of the president, Frank Levett. 

Martina was beautiful, and though she was unaware of it, her looks had helped secure her the job. Frank, captivated by her charm, made several attempts to win her over. Martina, always polite, consistently rejected his advances. 

Lucius Palmer, a strict and professional man, disapproved of Frank’s behavior. Despite their friendship, Lucius had warned Frank multiple times about his inappropriate conduct toward Martina. 

One evening, after yet another failed attempt to woo her, Frank lost his temper. With the office nearly empty, he began yelling at Martina and was on the verge of firing her when Lucius overheard the commotion and stepped in. Lucius reprimanded Frank, docking a significant portion of his bonus—a decision that sowed the seeds of Frank’s resentment toward his friend and boss, ultimately leading to much misfortune down the line. 

In the aftermath, Martina was reassigned as an assistant to Lucius‘ son, Leonard Palmer. At the time, Leonard was an 18–year–old university student studying international business. Though young, 

he was already showing exceptional promise, and his growing responsibilities demanded a reliable assistant. Martina was the perfect fit. 

As they worked closely together, a friendship blossomed, eventually evolving into a romance. Lucius disapproved of the relationship, but Catherine, ever perceptive, saw the potential benefits of their union. She believed that if Leonard committed to Martina, the pairing would bring prosperity to the family business. 

Martina’s only flaw, in Catherine’s eyes, was her lack of formal education. To remedy this, Catherine offered to fund Martina’s studies–provided she pursued something related to the family business. Martina eagerly accepted. 

When Frank Levett’s misconduct came to light, along with Lucius and Catherine’s eventual separation, Leonard was thrust into leadership. At just 20 years old, he became the youngest president in the industry. Many tried to take advantage of his inexperience, but with Martina by his side, they overcame every obstacle. 

Leonard and Martina married at 22, and their first son Maximus, was born when they turned 25. Two years la 

later, Peter joined the family. Tragically, Martina passed away at 40 from a mysterious illness. 

Her death left had Leonard reeling. Overnight, he was a widower raising two sons–one a teenager, the other still a child. Work became increasingly burdensome, and the loss of his wife, who had been both his confidante and partner, shattered his world.
